Romans 11:34–36

Dear Reader,

Come and stand a moment at the edge of this great deep. Here the apostle Paul, swept upward by the Spirit, falls silent before the unsearchable mind of God. He does not explain the mystery—he worships it.

Who has known the mind of the Lord? The question rolls like thunder across the ages, echoing the ancient cry of Isaiah and the whirlwind voice that once answered Job. No counselor has sat in the councils of eternity; no creature has first given to the Giver of all things. Yet from Him every river of existence flows, through Him every star holds its appointed course, and to Him every redeemed heart returns in praise.

In Christ the veil is parted. The eternal Word who was with God and was God has stepped into our dust, bearing the unsearchable wisdom in human flesh, pouring out the gift no hand could ever repay. At the cross the circle closes: all things from the Father, through the Son, for the glory that will never fade.

Read slowly. Let the questions humble you. Let the answer lift your eyes. And when the last line falls quiet, join the everlasting Amen.

Yours in the unsearchable riches of Christ,

The Poet

“Who has known the mind of the Lord?

Or who has been his counselor?”

“Who has ever given to God,

that God should repay them?”

For from him and through him and for him are all things.

To him be the glory forever! Amen.

Who has plumbed the mind of the living Lord,

Whose thoughts outsoar the starlit cord?

Who has drawn near as counselor wise,

To counsel Him who formed the skies?

No finite voice has shaped His will,

No mortal counsel scales that hill.

Yet Christ has come, the radiant Word,

In whom the Father’s mind is heard—

The wisdom veiled through ages past

Now shining clear, unveiled at last.

Who has first given to God some claim,

That heaven should answer with gift or name?

No hand has enriched the Boundless One,

No offering bought what grace has done.

Yet Christ, the Son, in love descended,

And freely gave what never ended:

His life laid down, His blood outpoured,

The priceless gift no wealth could afford.

He paid the debt we could not meet,

And rose to make the triumph complete.

All things from Him, the Father’s source,

Through Him, the Son, in sovereign force,

For Him, the goal of time and space,

The center of mercy, the heart of grace.

The galaxies wheel at His decree,

The oceans rise and fall by His sea;

Yet greater still: the souls He claims,

The hearts He frees from death’s dark chains.

In Christ the circle finds its close—

Creation, cross, and glory’s rose.

From Him the dawn, through Him the way,

For Him the endless, unbroken day.

All glory, wisdom, power, and praise

Belong to God through endless days.

No mind can fathom, no gift repay

The depths revealed in Christ the Way.

To Father, Son, and Spirit rise

The anthem that will never die.

The City That Needs No Sun: The Lamb as Its Everlasting Light by Debbie Harris

A Note from the Poet to the Reader

Dear reader,

The verse that first stirred these lines is brief yet inexhaustible: “The city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof” (Revelation 21:23).

In that single declaration the whole drama of redemption is gathered into one image. Light in Scripture is never mere illumination; it is joy that cannot be taken away, beauty that does not fade, knowledge that heals every mystery, and manifestation that finally reveals what grace has been making all along. And every one of these is found not in an abstract radiance but in a Person—the Lamb who was slain and is now exalted.

The joy of the redeemed is nothing other than the finished work of Jesus: chosen before the foundation of the world, loved through the long night of our rebellion, purchased with blood, washed, clothed, kept, and at last glorified. The beauty of the saints is borrowed light only; they shine as planets catch the sun. The knowledge that will one day make every dark providence plain flows from Him who is Himself the Light. And the final transformation—when the poor and stained are made clear as crystal—comes by the touch of the same Lamb who once bore our sin.

I have tried to let these truths speak in images drawn from the text itself: the clusters of Eshcol, the sleeping sapphire, the central Sun, the wand of living flame. The poem is not an argument but a prolonged gaze—an attempt to stand, even for a few stanzas, in the light that needs no other source.

May the reading of it turn your own eyes toward the same Lamb, until the day when faith becomes sight and we see Him in His own light, the King of kings and Lord of lords.

—The Poet

No sun is needed in that deathless sphere,

nor moon to borrow light from distant fire;

the Lamb alone is day perpetual there,

and all the City kindles from His light.

His glory is the firmament, the air,

the living radiance none can ever tire.

Joy is not echo of a passing mirth,

but the deep vintage of His finished love:

He chose us long before the mountains rose,

He loved us through the night we could not prove,

He bought us with the winepress of His blood,

He washed us white as snow on highest peaks,

He clothed us in the linen of His grace,

He kept us through the storm and through the flood,

and crowned us now with uncreated light.

Each thought of Him is Eshcol’s clustered gold,

a sweetness earth has never yet controlled.

Beauty is nothing when His beam is gone.

The sapphire sleeps, the pearl forgets to shine;

we are but planets round that central Sun,

reflecting splendours that are wholly His.

Withdraw the Lamb, and every glory dies;

unveil Him, and the very heavens grow pale.

We live as rays that from His fullness rise,

and if He veil Himself, our light must fail.

Knowledge, once fractured, stands forever whole.

The dark of providence is pierced and known;

what once was riddle to the pilgrim soul

lies open in the light that is His own.

No half-seen sign, no shadowed mystery—

the Lamb Himself is Teacher, Book, and Key.

All that confounded us on earth’s dim stage

is radiant now upon the endless page,

and every heart, astonished, lifts its voice

to praise the God who turned our tears to joy.

Then comes the final, glorious unveiling.

Here we were hidden, poor, and marked with sin;

there His own love, a wand of living flame,

touches the dust and draws the glory in.

One finger’s brush, and wretchedness is gone—

we stand as crystal, radiant as the sun.

The beggar rises king; the stained are pure;

the night is past, the morning shall endure.

All this proceeds from Him who once was slain,

the exalted Lamb, the centre of the train.

Whatever splendour floods the jasper throne,

whatever song the countless hosts intone,

Jesus is soul and substance of it all—

the Light, the Life, the everlasting Call.

O to be present in that purest ray,

and see the King of kings in His own day!

When Winter Comes to the Heart That Raised You: Still the Blessings of the Savior Flow by Debbie Harris

A Note from the Poet

Dear Reader,

If these lines find you in the quiet ache of watching a parent decline—whether the fading is slow or sudden, whether memory still holds or has begun to slip—know that you are held by the same Christ who wept at the tomb of Lazarus and who still draws near to the brokenhearted.

I wrote these words for the sacred space between love and letting go, where roles reverse and strength becomes the child’s. Yet even here the gospel remains true: the Lord who is close to the crushed in spirit has not withdrawn His presence. His bountiful blessings take the form of His own companionship—the same Jesus who promised, “I am with you always,” walks these final miles with both the parent and the child who watches.

May these verses point you gently back to Him. May they remind you that the Light of the World does not wait for winter’s end to shine, and that every tear is already seen by the One who will one day wipe them all away.

In the sure hope of Christ,

The Poet

Even when the one who held you first grows frail,

And memory softens like the evening light,

When strength that once upheld you starts to fail

And days grow quieter, edged with coming night—

Still mercy moves beneath the heavy years.

In trembling hands that once could lift the world

A deeper tenderness at last appears;

In slower steps, a gentler love is unfurled.

The body wanes, yet something sacred stays:

The look that knows you still, the whispered name,

The quiet courage of declining days,

The grace that lingers, never quite the same.

God’s bountiful hand does not withdraw its gift—

It offers presence in the fading breath,

A chance to serve, to sit, to simply lift

The weight of love against the face of death.

So in this season, bitter, slow, and deep,

When roles reverse and strength becomes the child’s,

Blessing still walks where the weary weep,

And heaven draws near in soft and sacred miles.

A Humble Prayer for a Wise and Understanding Heart, That We May Be Truly Rich in the Sight of the Lord by Debbie Harris

A Note from the Poet

Dear Reader, these humble lines were born of a simple prayer once uttered in quiet longing: that the Lord might grant us not the fleeting treasures of this world, but a wise and understanding heart—the only riches that endure. May they stir in thee the same desire that moved Solomon of old, and may the God of all wisdom answer them in thee as He did in him.

Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart… that I may discern between good and bad.

— 1 Kings 3:9 (KJV)

Lord, give us now a wise and understanding heart,

That we may know the good, and from the evil part.

For wisdom’s gentle light shall guide our every way,

And in that sacred gift true riches shall we stay.

Not gold that rusts, nor fame that fades with fleeting breath,

But discernment pure, that conquers fear and death.

A heart that seeks Thy truth, and finds in Thee its rest—

Then are we truly rich, by Heaven’s measure blest.

From Trembling Cry to Lion’s Courage: Psalm 138:3 by Debbie Harris

A Note from the Poet

Dear Reader,

This sonnet was born from the quiet fire of Psalm 138:3—those few ancient words that still burn with living power: “In the day when I cried thou answeredst me, and strengthenedst me with strength in my soul.”

I have tried to paint what that moment feels like when the cry rises from the deepest place, when the answer comes not as a distant echo but as strength poured straight into the marrow of the spirit. May these lines remind you that no cry is ever lost in the dark, and that the same God who answered then still forges courage in the soul today.

With gratitude and hope,

The Poet

In the dark hour when my trembling cry arose

Like thunder cracking through a storm-torn sky,

When waves of fear crashed hard against my soul

And shadows whispered threats that would not die,

Your voice came swift—a golden shaft of dawn

That pierced the clouds and silenced every gale;

The heavens opened, and Your answer shone

Like living fire along an ancient trail.

You poured into my spirit molten steel,

A fortress rising where the ruins lay;

You taught my heart to stand, to fight, to feel

The lion’s courage in the break of day.

Now bold I walk, my soul by You made strong—

A warrior forged by Love’s eternal song.

Never Build on Shifting Sand: Let No One Be Your Cornerstone — Christ Alone Is Worthy of Your Full Faith by Debbie Harris

Dear Reader,

In these lines I have tried to echo the sober wisdom of C.S. Lewis while lifting our eyes higher still — to the only Foundation that will never shift. Human hearts, even the best and wisest, are like sand: beautiful for a moment, yet unable to bear the weight of our eternal trust. May these words gently turn your hope away from every mortal cornerstone and fix it firmly upon Jesus Christ, the Rock who rose and who remains.

With prayer and affection,

The Poet

Matthew 7:24-27

Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.”

1 Corinthians 3:11

For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

Ephesians 2:20

And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone.

Verses Warning Against Trusting in Humans

Jeremiah 17:5-7

Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD. For he shall be like the heath in the desert… Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.

Psalm 146:3

Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.

Isaiah 26:4

Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength.

Additional Strengthening Verses

1 Peter 2:6 (quoting Isaiah)

Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Beneath the sky’s unyielding gaze,

We seek a rock where faith may stand—

Yet turn too swift to mortal praise,

And build on shifting, golden sand.

The wisest heart, the kindest hand,

Can walk beside us for a while;

Yet every soul on earthly land

Will falter in the fiercest trial.

There are footprints, trails, and fragile art

That shimmer softly in the sun—

Sweet moments shaped with gentle heart,

That slip away when day is done.

But never lay your soul’s foundation

On any one, however true.

Come build instead on Christ the Rock,

The One who rose and lives in you.

Let human love be gift and grace,

A melody, a helping hand—

But fix your hope and fix your faith

On Jesus, firm where all else fails.

When storms arise and tempests roar,

When towers tremble, crack, and sway,

The soul secured in Christ the Lord

Will stand unmoved, come what may.

Will Refresh the Weary and Satisfy the Faint: A Song of Restoration from Jeremiah’s Book of Consolation” by Debbie Harris

Poet’s Note to the Reader

Dear Reader,

Jeremiah 31 falls in the heart of what scholars call the “Book of Consolation” (chapters 30–33). The year is roughly 587–586 BC. Jerusalem has been besieged, the temple is about to burn, and the people of Judah are being dragged into Babylonian exile. Families are torn apart, homes reduced to rubble, and hope has almost died.

In the middle of this national heartbreak, God does something astonishing: He speaks comfort directly to the exhausted. The weary soul (nephesh ‘ayephah) and the sorrowful soul (nephesh dagah) are not abstract ideas—they represent real mothers who lost children in the siege, farmers whose fields were trampled by armies, and exiles trudging in chains toward a foreign land. Into their despair the Lord declares that He Himself will satiate (fill to the full) and replenish (restore what was drained).

The poem that follows draws its imagery from this exact moment in history—the desert heat of exile, the cracked reed of a broken people, the sudden river of divine mercy, and the promised return to a land that will bloom again. May these lines become cool water for any soul, ancient or modern, that arrives here feeling faint.

With hope,

The Poet

In exile’s dust where weary pilgrims groan,

Their feet like lead, their spirits cracked and dry,

The Lord descends in mercy’s silver tone,

A living stream beneath the burning sky.

He sees the soul that faints beneath the blaze,

A drooping reed scorched by the desert’s breath,

A hollow reed that holds no note of praise,

Yet whispers still its plea for life from death.

“I will refresh the weary,” rings His word,

Like dawn’s first light on frost-encrusted boughs;

“I will replenish every soul that’s blurred,”

And turn their ashes into blooming vows.

He pours cool rivers through the fevered vein,

Sweet manna dew on lips long parched with grief;

He lifts the fallen, clothes the bare in rain,

And weaves new strength through every trembling leaf.

The faint shall drink from fountains never spent,

Their cups o’erflow with wine of endless joy;

The weary soar on eagle wings unbent,

Above the valleys where old sorrows die.

No more the hollow night, the thorn-crowned day,

No more the chains that bind the hopeful heart;

He plants green gardens where the wastelands lay,

And bids the desert burst with heaven’s art.

O burdened traveler on the flint-sharp road,

Lift high your eyes—the Healer draweth nigh!

In His embrace your heavy yoke is stowed,

And rest descends like stars from mercy’s sky.

Thus speaks the Faithful, sovereign, strong, and true:

The weary find their rest, the faint arise,

Refreshed, replenished, made forever new—

Beneath the shelter of His healing skies.

In the World but Not of It: The Friction of Faithful Obedience and the Harbor of Christ’s Peace by Debbie Harris

Dear Reader,

This poem was born in the tension every sincere follower of Christ eventually feels — the sense of moving against the current of the age. The world flows one direction; the cross pulls us another. There is real friction, real cost, and sometimes real loneliness in that obedience.

Yet in the very place of conflict, Jesus offers something the world cannot give: a deep, abiding peace that does not depend on circumstances. I wanted to paint this reality with living images — the glittering crowd, the backward pilgrim, the sparks of resistance, and the quiet flame of Christ burning within.

My prayer is that these lines will strengthen your heart to keep walking the narrow way with courage and hope. The road may be hard, but it is never walked alone. The Savior who calls you also carries you, and the peace He gives is stronger than every storm.

May you hear His voice afresh:

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” (John 14:27)

Grace and strength to you on the backward path,

The Poet

Romans 12:2

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

John 17:16

They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

2 Timothy 3:12

Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

John 14:27

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Matthew 7:13-14

Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

John 16:33

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

1 John 2:15-17

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

Through velvet night the multitude advances,

A glittering flood of silk and shattered glances,

Chasing lanterns hung on mist and lies—

Broad road of self where every pleasure dies.

Yet one lone pilgrim presses contraflow,

Face lit by a cross that only saints may know.

Each step a wound, each breath a battle cry,

While heaven’s whisper thunders, “Follow, I.”

Society’s wide river, swift and loud,

Sweeps gilded barges toward the waiting shroud.

The pilgrim wades against the current’s flood,

A living scandal to the world’s false god.

The friction sparks—flames lick the pilgrim’s frame;

Derision howls like wolves that scent the slain.

Yet in the furnace of their scorn refined,

A still, small voice breathes peace the world can’t find.

For Christ, the Rock that cleaves the raging sea,

Has planted deep an anchor, firm and free.

No gale can loose the peace His wounds secured—

A crystal river where the Lamb is Lord.

Though friendships fracture like a brittle reed

And crowns of comfort tumble as they bleed,

The pilgrim lifts their eyes where thorn-crowned glory shines,

And tastes the joy no earthly chain confines.

O soul, arise and join this backward race—

The narrow path where Jesus sets the pace.

In conflict’s forge His image you shall bear,

And wear the peace that calms the tempests there.

From Glory to Glory: The Royally Redeemed Rise by Debbie Harrid

(Not from Condemnation, Shame, or the Enemy’s Belittling Voice, but in the Triumphant Light of the Lamb)

A Note from the Poet

Dear Reader,

This poem was born in the quiet tension between two voices: the condemning roar of the world and the enemy, and the triumphant whisper of heaven. In a culture quick to shame, belittle, and reduce us to our worst moments, I wanted to lift high the biblical truth that the redeemed do not rise from condemnation—they rise from glory to glory (2 Corinthians 3:18).

Our identity is not forged in the fires of accusation but in the finished work of the Lamb. We are royally adopted, crowned before we ever conquered, clothed in righteousness before we ever proved ourselves worthy. The poem sings of that royal ascent: not a reluctant climb out of darkness, but an ever-brightening flight deeper into the light we already possess in Christ.

My prayer is that these words would silence the serpent’s hiss in your ears and awaken the song of the redeemed in your spirit. You are not defined by what the world calls you. You are defined by the One who calls you “Mine.”

May you rise,

From glory to glory,

Ever held, ever crowned,

Ever free.

With joy and holy confidence,

The Poet

2 Corinthians 3:18

But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

Romans 8:1

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

1 Peter 2:9

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.

Revelation 1:5-6

And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Ephesians 2:6

And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.

Romans 8:15-17

For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ.

Isaiah 61:3

To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.

Hebrews 12:2

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Revelation 5:9-10

And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

From glory to glory the royally redeemed arise,

Like mountains crowned in uncreated light,

Where morning spills its molten gold across the skies

And every shadow bows and takes its flight.

Not dragged from dungeons of the serpent’s shame,

Not whipped by tongues that hiss “unworthy, stained,”—

They mount on eagle wings of holy flame,

Where thunder learns their names and tempests wane.

Behold their crowns: forged from the Lamb’s own scars,

Each jewel a wound that bled eternal grace;

Their robes, the whiteness of uncounted stars,

Woven from tears the Savior kissed from every face.

They walk on seas that once roared chains and night,

Now polished glass beneath their kingly stride;

The Accuser’s ink dissolves in heaven’s light—

A living scroll where endless glory is inscribed.

O sing, you ransomed ones, let galaxies resound!

The enemy’s pale venom cannot mar

The radiance the Father’s smile has crowned—

From glory into glory, star by star.

Arise, bright heirs, in splendor unrestrained,

Like lilies blazing through the frost’s white tomb;

The King who whispers “Mine” has you sustained—

From glory unto glory, ever bloom.

Dear Reader,

If these lines find you weary, burdened, or simply longing, know this: the gospel I have tried to capture here is not mere poetry — it is living truth. When the Holy Spirit unveils the glory of full forgiveness and Christ’s imputed righteousness, the heart cannot stay silent. I wrote this in awe, with tears, that you too might taste the same wonder: every sin — past, present, and future — nailed to His cross, and in their place, His perfect record counted as yours.

May these words lift your eyes to Jesus, stir holy tears, and kindle fresh worship. He is worthy.

With reverence and joy,

The Poet

• Colossians 2:13-14 — “And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross.”

• Hebrews 10:14, 17 — “For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified… And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.”

• Isaiah 43:25 — “I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.”

• Micah 7:19 — “He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.”

Imputed Righteousness of Christ

• 2 Corinthians 5:21 — “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”

• Romans 4:5-6 — “But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works.”

• Romans 5:19 — “For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.”

• Philippians 3:9 — “And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith.”

Just as if I Never Sinned (No Condemnation)

• Romans 8:1 — “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus.”

• Psalm 103:12 — “As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.”

Surpassing Worth of This Grace

• Philippians 3:7-8 — “But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ.”

• Matthew 13:45-46 — “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

When blinding light at last breaks through

And every sin—past, present, new—

Lies cancelled in the crimson flood,

Submerged forever in His blood,

Then bursts the soul in speechless awe:

All guilt erased by sovereign law!

Imputed righteousness divine—

Not earned, but counted wholly mine!

The spotless record of the Son

Becomes my own, and I am one

With Him who bore my curse and shame,

Now robed in glory as His name.

Just as if I never sinned,

I stand accepted, reconciled within.

O doctrinal diamond, pure and bright,

More radiant than the noonday light,

Outvaluing the gathered gold

Of empires old and worlds untold—

This single gem of grace supreme

Outweighs the universe’s dream.

My eyes dissolve in holy tears;

My knees sink low, my spirit hears

The whisper of redeeming love

That lifts the guilty far above

All thrones and powers, all earthly boast,

To rest in Christ, in Him engrossed.

I weep, I worship, I adore

The Lamb once slain, now evermore

Enthroned in majesty and grace,

Whose every breath bids mercy blaze.

What tongue can tell, what heart conceive

The riches I in Him receive?

Take all the world—its fleeting store—

I count it loss forevermore.

For this: to know my sins are gone,

And Christ’s own beauty called my own—

This is the pearl of greatest price,

The fountain of eternal life.

Jesus, my Lord, my All in All,

Upon Thy name I gladly fall;

And till I see Thee face to face,

Let every breath proclaim Thy grace:

“Worthy the Lamb who took my place!”

Amen and Amen.
