A Note from the Poet
Dear Reader,
This poem was written for every saint who still hears the old accusations. In a time when spiritual warfare is on the rise, that ancient liar—who knows his time is short—still loves to condemn the redeemed. Yet his charges fall empty. This is not a defense of self, but a declaration of what Christ has already finished. The shield is not something we forge; it is the unbreakable word spoken over us: just as if the soul never sinned. May it meet you in the thick of the battle and leave you standing in the triumph that belongs to Him alone—unashamed, uncondemned, and victorious.
In Christ,
The Poet
Romans 8:31–39
What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Ephesians 1:6
To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
Romans 8:1
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
2 Corinthians 5:21
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Romans 4:7–8
Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.
Revelation 12:10–11
And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony…
Zechariah 3:1–4
And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him. And the Lord said unto Satan, The Lord rebuke thee, O Satan… Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments… And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment.
Ephesians 6:16
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
1 Corinthians 15:57
But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Colossians 2:13–14
And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross.
When conscience rises with its ancient claim
and every past offense is named again,
Christ stands between the sinner and the shame
and answers with a word that ends the pain:
Just as if the soul never sinned.
This is the Christian’s shield of hope and grace,
not self-made strength nor merit of its own;
the blood that satisfied the throne of space
has made the guilty fully known as clean,
just as if the soul never sinned.
No record of the fall remains to weigh
the one who hides within the Risen One;
the debt is paid, the guilt is borne away,
and righteousness is counted as their own—
just as if the soul never sinned.
This is the Christian’s triumph and victory,
not struggle won by effort, will, or fame;
it rests upon the cross upon the hill
and on the empty tomb that speaks the Name
that says: just as if the soul never sinned.
So let the soul walk forward unafraid,
clothed in a righteousness that is not its own;
the finished work of Christ has all been paid,
and every morning still the promise is shown:
just as if the soul never sinned.
**To God be the glory always and only.
