Forgiveness in Christ: The Freeing Walk(A Villanelle) by Debbie Harris

Dear Precious Reader,

Forgiveness is rarely easy, yet it is the path to true freedom in Christ. These words were written as a quiet encouragement for every heart that longs to walk in the same mercy the Savior showed us on the cross. May the Lord strengthen you to choose forgiveness daily and experience the liberty that only He can give.

With prayerful hope,
A sister in Christ

Brief Note on Form:
This is a villanelle — a 19-line French poetic form built on two repeating refrains and a strict ABA rhyme scheme. The refrains (“To walk in the choice of forgiveness, this is how to be free” and “The soul that releases the debt finds its true liberty”) circle like steady footsteps on a pilgrim’s path. Their repetition mirrors the daily, disciplined choice of forgiveness itself, making the poem both musical and meditative.

Colossians 3:13 (KJV)
Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

Ephesians 4:32 (KJV)
And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

Matthew 6:14 (KJV)
For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

Luke 23:34 (KJV)
Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and

To walk in the choice of forgiveness, this is how to be free,
Clothed in the mercy that flowed from the wounds of the Tree,
The soul that releases the debt finds its true liberty.

For Christ on the cross breathed pardon for you and for me,
“Father, forgive them”—His blood writes the new decree;
To walk in the choice of forgiveness, this is how to be free.

Our tallies of wrong like old shackles refuse to agree,
Yet grace calls us higher: “As I have forgiven thee,”
The soul that releases the debt finds its true liberty.

When pride swells and memory sharpens its blade cunningly,
Look up to the Savior whose scars are the only just plea—
To walk in the choice of forgiveness, this is how to be free.

No strength of our own breaks the chains of iniquity;
His Spirit empowers the heart that was captive to see
The soul that releases the debt finds its true liberty.

So pilgrim, take courage—His yoke is gentle and free;
In union with Jesus, the bondslave of wrath is set free.
To walk in the choice of forgiveness, this is how to be free—
The soul that releases the debt finds its true liberty.

Dear Precious Reader,

In the poem, When God Gives Wings, a soul stands before a task so immense and impossible that no human strength, wisdom, or ability could ever accomplish it. Yet in tender mercy, God breathes upon the weary and grants divine wings—wings not of this earth, but straight from heaven itself. With immeasurable strength, supernatural ability, and heavenly wisdom poured out, what once loomed as an unscalable mountain is not only overcome but joyfully soared over. The impossible becomes a living testimony of God’s limitless power. The poem overflows with wonder at the miracle, awe at God’s greatness, adoration for the King who stoops low to lift the weak, and deep thanksgiving for His faithful presence and empowering grace. It is a gentle yet powerful invitation to every tired heart facing the impossible: When God calls you, He fully equips you. He gives wings so that you may fly.May these words stir your faith and fill you with fresh courage.

With joy and blessing,

In the hush of dawn where miracles ignite,
God breathes upon the weary child of light.
He grants these wings—not feathered, frail, or bound—
But heaven’s own, where earth and glory kiss the ground.

A task that seemed impossible, immense,
Loomed like a mountain none could hope to crest.
Yet wonder floods the soul like endless sea,
As mortal limits break in holy liberty!

The spirit rises, not by merit, weak and small,
But by the hand that holds the stars, the all.
Awe trembles deeply, vast and deep and wide,
As immeasurable strength like rivers surges, sanctified.

God pours out wisdom, vast and pure and bright,
And ability that shatters every height.
No longer chained to doubt or fear’s cold grasp,
His power thunders—lightning in the clasp!

Adoration swells, a holy, burning flame,
To You, O Sovereign—matchless is Your name!
The King stoops low from throne of endless light
To arm the weak with unconquerable might.

Thanksgiving pours like incense, sweet and free,
For every impossible task the Lord has called this soul to see.
He bends the heavens, walks beside the way,
Empowering feet that once would falter, hearts that now obey.

How marvelous, this gift beyond all words—
The Creator lending wings to flightless birds!
The spirit soars through heights of glory, pure and strong,
Because the King of kings has made the soul strong.

All praise, all glory, adoration, love
Ascend to God who equips from realms above.
In wonder, awe, and grateful hearts they sing:
When God gives wings, the impossible takes flight!

Apart from Christ Alone: Without Me Ye Can Do Nothing by Debbie Harris

Dear Precious Reader,

The poem is a solemn meditation on the futility of human effort and ambition when pursued apart from Christ. It paints a vivid picture of worldly pursuits—glass castles on shifting sand, fading laurels, cracking cisterns, and towering empires of “gilded dust”—all destined to crumble into ruin. Strength, intellect, and pride ultimately fail; every triumph is temporary, every kingdom silent in the dust of oblivion.In powerful contrast, the poem turns to the hope found in Jesus, the true Vine and Cornerstone. Apart from Him, we can do nothing lasting, but grafted into His life, even the weakest life bears abundant fruit that time cannot destroy. His mercy, sealed at Calvary, rewrites our frailty into strength. It closes with an invitation: lay down your weary striving and find eternal rest and unquenchable light in the Savior.In essence, it is a call away from self-reliant Babel-building toward abiding in Christ—the only foundation that stands forever.

Grace and peace to you!

John 15:5 (KJV)
I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

In twilight halls where mortal echoes die,
We grasp at phantoms, chase the fleeting sigh—
Castles of glass upon the quaking sand,
Thorn-crowns of pride that cut the builder’s hand.
Apart from Jesus, the cistern cracks and dries,
Ambition’s blaze a guttering wick of lies.
Laurels curl brown beneath the withering sun,
And every triumph’s tale is soon undone.
The restless mind, in darkness seeking light,
Charts only mazes, blind to what is right.
The heart, devouring shadows for its bread,
Finds famine clothed in gold, and dreams long dead.
Kingdoms ascend in brass and gilded dust,
Then topple mute into oblivion’s rust.
The strong man’s sinew, scholar’s subtle art—
Both bow at last before the failing heart.
Yet in the Vine no tempest can uproot,
The Cornerstone no age can refute—
“Apart from Me ye can do nothing,” spake the Lord,
And grafted to His life, the barren bough
Bursts into clusters, heavy with living grace,
In secret orchards time cannot erase.
His mercy, crimson-scribed on Calvary’s tree,
Rewrites the ledger of our frailty.
Where weakness kneels and lifts its trembling plea,
His strength resounds in perfect symphony.
Let mortals raise their Babel spires high,
Forge ladders forged of dust against the sky—
All towers tilt, all empires turn to clay,
Save that which bears the Savior’s name alone.
Apart from Christ, we sail uncharted seas,
With tattered sails and no true compass breeze.
But rooted deep in Him, the weakest reed
Becomes a cedar, towering and freed.
In Jesus dwells the dawn that knows no night,
Eternal rivers of unquenchable light.
Come, wanderer, lay down thy weary load,
And rest forever in the Vine’s abode

Dear Precious Reader,

In an unredeemed world wrapped in shadowed valleys and heavy despair, there is one radiant hope that shines undimmed: Jesus Christ our Lord.Through His amazing grace, the broken sinner is made new—a glorious new creation, victorious over sin and death. He shatters every chain that binds the soul, renews the heart, and restores the old life into wholeness. No human creed, no earthly throne, and no amount of gold can compare to the power of His redeeming blood.Rise, O creation! Let every redeemed heart sing with boldness and joy:Our only hope is Jesus Christ our King!

In shadowed valleys where despair holds sway,
No other hope sustains this weary world
Than grace that makes the sinner new each day—
A new creation, glorious, unfurled.

Victorious in light, triumphant still
O’er sin and death’s cold, unrelenting night,
Salvation flows from Calvary’s holy hill—
Found only in our Jesus Christ, the Light.

He breaks the chains that bind the wounded soul,
Renews the heart and makes the old man whole.
No human creed, no throne of gold or power
Can match the wonder of His cleansing blood.

Rise, O creation! Let the ransomed sing:
Our only hope is Jesus Christ our King!

The Seriousness of Calling Yourself a “Christian” Without Any Recognizable Fruit by Debbie Harris

Jesus Christ our Lord is the true Vine,
The source of all life and living sap.
God the Father is the Gardener wise,
He tends and watches every branch with care.

Every branch that stays joined to Christ
But hangs empty — no fruit, no clusters in sight —
Even after many seasons of mercy and grace,
The Father cuts it off and takes it from its place.
He will not let dead wood remain attached.

But every branch that bears some fruit,
He prunes with care, though it may sting and hurt,
So stronger shoots and heavier clusters grow,
And richer, sweeter fruit appears on earth.

We must abide in Christ, and He in us.
A branch cut off can never bear its own.
It withers quickly, turns brittle, dry, and brown,
And lies there useless, barren, and alone.

Jesus is the Vine, and we are the branches.
Whoever abides in Him will bear much fruit.
But apart from Christ we can do nothing —
We wither, fade, and slowly die.

If anyone does not abide in Christ,
He is cast out like a withered, lifeless limb.
Men gather up the dry wood from the ground,
And burn it in a fire fierce and grim.

God is patient, slow to wrath and kind,
He gives chance after chance, as with the fig tree.
He digs, He waters, waits with hope in mind —
But patience ends, the fruitless branch is cut free.

By their fruits you surely know the tree,
Faith without works is dead and hollow too.
The Spirit’s fruit is plain for all to see:
Love, joy, and peace in all we say and do.

So hear this warning deep within your soul:
Do not wear the name “Christian” with a barren life.
If no obedience and no real fruit appear,
The Gardener’s blade will cut you from this life.

Stay rooted deep in Jesus Christ each day,
Let His rich life flow strong through every part.
Then lasting fruit will grow without delay,
And you will please the Father’s loving heart.

I’ve seen it happen with my own eyes,
Branches once green now cut away and dry.
Lives that once walked close to the Lord
Now scattered, withered, passing by.

So let us examine our hearts today,
While mercy still calls and grace remains.
Abide in Christ, bear fruit while you may —
Lest we too are cut off from these earthly plains.

Humanity’s Shadowed Light: Complexities of the Christless Heart by Debbie Harris

In shadowed vales where no Redeemer trod,
Yet common grace still scatters seeds of good,
Man bears the image, marred but not erased,
And often walks with noble heart and mood.
He loves his children, tends the wounded beast,
Gives alms in secret, risks his life for friend;
Yet in his breast the ancient serpent’s yeast
Still works unseen, and waits its fatal end.

Without the Cross, the soul retains its spark—
Bright deeds of mercy, courage, truth, and art—
But lacks the root that holds it through the dark,
The living Vine that binds the fractured heart.
Thus cruelty, though not in every breast,
Finds easier soil where Christ is not enthroned;
It wears a thousand faces, finely dressed,
In systems cold where love is never owned.

Behold the cultured man of gentle speech,
Who weeps at poetry and feeds the poor,
Yet votes for laws that grind the helpless each,
Or turns away when conscience knocks his door.
The tender mother, fierce in love’s employ,
May still despise the stranger at her gate;
The honest scholar, seeker after joy,
May justify the scaffold and the hate.

O complex race! Half angel, half in chains—
Thou buildest hospitals, yet prisons too;
Thou singest ballads sweet of soft refrains,
Then march to war with hymns of vengeance new.
Thou pitiest horses, dogs, and woodland deer,
Yet traffic souls for pleasure or for gain;
Thou speakest peace, yet harbor secret fear
That turns to cruelty when loss brings pain.

Not every soul without the Savior’s name
Is brute or tyrant walking earth’s sad sod;
Yet all, unanchored, drift toward the same
Slow-cooling love, the gradual death of God.
For conscience fades when not renewed by grace,
And self becomes the measure and the law;
The kinder heart grows weary in the race,
And turns at last to serve its hidden flaw.

Thus shines a twilight beauty, real yet frail,
A borrowed light that glimmers, then grows dim;
Till Christ restore the heart that will not fail,
And flood with dawn what now is veiled and grim.
O fallen race, in whom such glories dwell,
Yet chained to shadows deeper than we see—
Come to the Lamb whose mercy cannot fail,
Lest even thy kindness prove a gilded tree.

The Redeemed Heart: An Ode Against Every Type of Cruelty by Debbie Harris

In Christ’s dear name, where crimson mercy flows,
Redeemed souls rise, washed clean from Adam’s stain;
No longer thrall to sin’s unfeeling throes,
But bound in love’s bright, everlasting chain.
If thou art His, and bear the Savior’s mark,
Then hate the lash that scars the tender back,
The fist that strikes the child in shadowed dark,
The blade that lays the harmless creature slack.

O cruelty, thou viper from the pit,
Thou mock’st the Lord who healed the broken reed;
Who gathered lambs and bade the sparrow flit
Beneath His gaze, in gentle, sovereign heed.
He wept for Lazarus, for Jerusalem’s woe,
And stooped to lift the fallen, bruised, and low.

Shall we, bought dear with blood on Calvary’s tree,
Endure the groan of woman in her chains?
The orphan’s cry that rends the midnight sea,
The beast that bleeds beneath uncaring reins?
Nay—let the redeemed soul blaze with holy ire,
A furnace hot against each brutal wrong;
For love and hatred twine as sacred fire:
Love to the weak, and hatred fierce and strong.

To every hand that lifts in needless pain,
To every tongue that wounds the widow’s breast,
To every eye that sees and turns in vain—
The Christ within cries, “This shall find no rest!”
For He who made the eagle, ox, and dove,
And fashioned man in His own image bright,
Commands us guard the weak with jealous love,
And tread down cruelty with warrior’s might.

Thus walk, O soul, in garments white and pure,
A pilgrim marked by pity’s thorn-crowned brow;
Let mercy be thy banner, swift and sure,
Till heaven’s dawn dissolves all shadows now.
In Jesus’ name, where every tear is dried,
No cruelty shall stand—hate it, justified.

Awake, O Righteous! A Thundering Cry Against the Intellectual Atrocities of Modern Universities and the Urgent Call to Rescue Our Youth by the Sword of Truth, The Holy Bible by Debbie Harris

In shadowed halls where once the Muses sang
Of truth and virtue, now the serpent’s fang
Doth pierce the tender minds of youth betrayed,
By cloaked professors in their gowns arrayed.
They preach the lie that God is dead and gone,
That flesh is all, and Heaven but a dawn
Of foolish fable; they exalt the base,
The lust of self, the pride of every race,
The twisted creed that mocks the sacred law
And calls the foulest vice a righteous cause.

Thus universities, those once-bright fanes,
Are turned to temples of demonic chains,
Where youth, once pure as lilies in the field,
Are taught to scorn the harvest God would yield.

Yet rise, O righteous! Lift the ancient sword
Of truth undimmed, the timeless, living Word!
Be not as reeds that bend before the gale,
Nor silent watchmen sleeping at the pale.
The hour demands bold hearts and steadfast feet—
Go forth as lions where the dragons meet!
Storm the groves of Academe with light,
With courage kindled by the Spirit’s might.
Let every father, mother, saint, and sage
Confront the lie that poisons youth’s young age.

Stand in the classrooms, stand in council halls,
Proclaim the Cross that breaks the strongest walls.
Write, speak, and pray with voices like the thunder;
Expose the darkness, rend its veils asunder.
Teach truth at home where universities fail,
Raise sons and daughters armored in the mail
Of righteousness. Let not one soul be lost
To intellectual atrocities’ cost.
Though scorn and cancel may assail your name,
The crown of life awaits the overcoming flame.

Ye scholars of the King, awake and rise!
The battle is not yours, but His who dies
And rose again. Go forth with holy fire,
To rescue minds and set the captives higher.
No compromise with Babel’s gilded tongue—
The righteous must be bold, the righteous strong.
For when the Savior comes in clouds of glory,
He shall not ask if ye were safe and sorry,
But whether ye contended for the faith,
Defended lambs against the wolves of death.

O universities, once Athens’ heirs,
Now fallen towers of unrighteous cares,
Thy day of pomp shall end in smoke and shame;
The Judge shall call each tempter by his name.
Repent, ye teachers! Ere the trumpet sound,
Cast down your idols, seek the holy ground.

But ye, beloved, take up the standard high—
A bold and courageous stand beneath the sky!
The youth may yet be freed by grace divine;
The faithful warriors shall in triumph shine.

Thus ends the call in rhyme of ancient mode:
Corruption’s wage is paid before God’s throne—
Yet victory waits for those who dare to fight
With truth and courage in the Savior’s light.

Will The Salt Stay Salty?Not By Clutching Yesterday’s Heat, But By Staying Near The Source That First Made It Sharp Which Is Jeus Chist, Our Lord by Debbie Harris

Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

Matthew 5:13 (KJV)

You are the salt of the earth, the hidden grace
That seasons sorrow, checks the creeping rot,
Preserves the good where virtue finds no place,
And cuts through dullness with a living edge.
But if that salt grows flat, its fire grown cold,
No skill restores the savor it once gave;
It crumbles useless on the common mold,
Fit only to be scattered on the grave.
O faithful ones, once bright against the night,
What happens when your witness turns to show?
When love grows safe, and truth bends to delight,
And holy fire becomes a hearth’s dull glow?
The world will walk across what it revered
And trample underfoot what should have steered.
Yet even now, a single spark may rise—
A contrite heart, a prayer that will not cease—
To draw the salt from ashes to the skies
And wake the ancient flame of truth and peace.
Will you be remade, restored to burning worth,
Or trampled underfoot as worthless earth?

Revelation 4:11 (KJV)

You are worthy, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
for you created all things,
and by your will they were created
and have their being.

O radiant Lord, enthroned in blazing light,
Thou art worthy to claim eternal praise!
Glory and honor, majesty and might,
Crown Thee forever through unnumbered days.
Before Thy throne the fourfold creatures cry
“Holy!” in thunderous, triumphant strain;
The elders fall, their golden crowns they fly,
And cast them down in glad, adoring rain.
For by Thy sovereign will the heavens sprang,
Galaxies wheeled in fiery dance unfurled;
The oceans roared, the verdant mountains rang,
And life awoke across a waking world.
Each star that burns, each creature great and small,
The eagle’s soar, the lion’s royal roar,
All sing the anthem of their Maker’s call—
Thou hast created; Thou sustainest all.
Victorious King, whose word alone prevailed
When ancient darkness trembled at Thy voice,
No power of chaos has Thy throne assailed,
For all things serve Thee, and in Thee rejoice.
Hail, worthy One upon the sapphire throne!
Let every realm and every tongue confess:
All glory, honor, power are Thine alone,
Forever worthy, Lord of righteousness!
Amen. Amen.
