The poem marvels at nature’s beauty—singing birds, a shining sun, and a vast blue sky—as undeniable evidence of a divine Creator, Savior, and Guide, prompting heartfelt praise.

With birds in chorus, singing through the morn,
Sun shining bright upon the waking land,
And azure blue, a sky so vast and grand,
How can we not, in wonder, praise be sworn?
Our Creator crafts each dawn, each note reborn,
Our Savior lifts us with a gentle hand,
Our Guide through shadows, steady where we stand,
His grace a gift no sin can overworn.
The world itself a hymn of boundless care,
Each ray, each wing, a call to bend the knee,
Repentance turns the heart to seek His face.
Beneath this vault of heaven’s boundless air,
We find salvation’s prize, from guilt set free,
A song of life upheld by endless grace.

For I Know That My Redeemer Liveth, and That He Shall Stand at the Latter Day Upon the Earth I by Debbie Harris

The sonnet, titled “For I Know That My Redeemer Liveth, and That He Shall Stand at the Latter Day Upon the Earth,” is a triumphant celebration of Christ’s eternal and victorious reign, inspired by Job 19:25: “For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth” (KJV). Written in Shakespearean form with the rhyme scheme ABAB CDCD EFEF GG and iambic pentameter, it exalts the Savior’s unshakable sovereignty. The first quatrain establishes His enduring throne and invincible might. The second quatrain highlights His triumphant stand on the latter day, where creation bows and His glory shines undimmed. The third quatrain extends His rule beyond time, affirming that “His reign will be o’er heaven and earth sublime,” uniting both realms under His dominion. The final couplet calls all creation to proclaim His victory, presenting Christ as the sovereign King over all. Though the verse uses first person, the sonnet shifts to third person to universally proclaim His reign, fulfilling the victorious tone rooted in Job’s declaration.

The Savior lives, His throne stands ever sure,
A King whose might no shadow dares defy,
His voice awakens all with strength so pure,
His reign shall tower where the heavens lie.
Upon the latter day He claims His place,
The mountains kneel, the winds His praise proclaim,
No force can dim the splendor of His face,
Eternal light attends His holy name.
The stars exalt His rule beyond all time,
The earth rejoices in His boundless sway,
His reign will be o’er heaven and earth sublime,
And holds dominion in unending day.
Let all creation sound His triumph’s call,
Christ reigns victorious, sovereign over all!

The poem, an English sonnet titled “Christ the Master Creator’s Regal Cardinal Amid Spring’s Blossoms”, celebrates a cardinal’s striking beauty in a vibrant spring setting, attributing its existence to Christ’s divine creation. In the first quatrain, the cardinal’s regal red feathers stand out against pink blossoms and greening branches under Christ-shaped skies. The second quatrain highlights his song as a divine gift, adorning the boughs with grace and reflecting Christ’s design. The third quatrain expands to meadows and streams, portraying the bird’s wings as a symbol of faith, crafted by a holy hand. The final couplet crowns him as spring’s ardent king, a radiant jewel freed from winter, embodying Christ’s eternal love and mastery over the season. The 14-line structure follows the ABAB CDCD EFEF GG rhyme scheme in iambic pentameter, weaving rich imagery with a spiritual thread.

Beneath a dome of skies by Christ unfurled,
A cardinal gleams through blossoms soft and pink,
His regal red a hue from heaven’s ink,
A sovereign flame in spring’s renewed world.

Through leaves, his song ascends, a gift divine,
Each note a thread of grace in nature’s frame,
He crowns the boughs where dewdrops bear His name,
A lordly sign of Christ’s own grand design.

The meadows bloom with life by holy hand,
Where violets bow and streams in sunlight sing,
His wings sweep air like faith’s anointed wing.

Perched high, he gilds the dawn o’er sacred land,
A jewel shaped free by love’s eternal span,
Spring’s ardent king, from Christ, the source of spring.

Title: “A Sonnet of Spring’s Awakening, Where the Eternal King Weaves Wonders in His Royal Heirs for Mighty Exploits”

This sonnet celebrates the transformative power of God, depicted as an eternal King who ushers in a spiritual spring, renewing the soul with vibrant imagery of blooming flowers (lilacs, daffodils, jasmine, roses, tulips) and flowing rivers. It portrays God’s royal authority awakening wonders within the speaker and His people, who, as royal heirs, rise to perform mighty deeds. The poem intertwines natural rebirth with divine empowerment, culminating in a triumphant declaration of God’s reign soaring through His chosen ones.

Bible References

  1. Daniel 11:32 – “But the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits.”
  • This verse directly inspires the theme of “mighty exploits” performed by those who know God, reflected in the second quatrain where the heirs “ascend” and their deeds “bloom like roses.”
  1. Psalm 104:30 – “When You send forth Your Spirit, they are created; and You renew the face of the earth.”
  • The imagery of spring’s renewal and God’s breath unfurling life (e.g., “Your royal breath unfurls a jasmine sea”) echoes this idea of divine creation and rejuvenation.
  1. Revelation 1:6 – “And has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.”
  • The concept of believers as “royal heirs” with regal might ties to this passage, emphasizing our shared royalty with Christ, as seen in the poem’s focus on being “robed in You” and crowned by God.
  1. Isaiah 43:19 – “Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”
  • The line “a river leaps from stone, a living spring” reflects this promise of new beginnings and miraculous transformation, paralleling spring’s awakening in the sonnet.
  1. Psalm 45:1-2 – “My heart is overflowing with a good theme; I recite my composition concerning the King… You are fairer than the sons of men; grace is poured upon Your lips.”
  • The sonnet’s praise of the “eternal Sire” and the fragrant, regal imagery (e.g., “purple sceptres high”) resonate with this poetic exultation of the King’s beauty and authority.

A throne of spring ascends o’er shattered frost,
Where lilacs blaze with purple sceptres high,
In me, O King, weave wonders none exhaust,
My spirit crowned beneath Your fragrant sky.

Through golden tides of daffodils that bend,
Your royal breath unfurls a jasmine sea,
We, robed in You, with regal might ascend,
Our exploits bloom like roses, wild and free.

The tulip fields bow low to Your command,
A kingdom’s pulse where petals softly sing,
In us, Your heirs, Your sovereign hand expands,
A river leaps from stone, a living spring.

Lord, fuse my heart to Yours, eternal Sire,
Through us, Your royal heirs, Your reign shall soar.

Boys Are Not Girls and Girls Are Not Boys, A Man Is Not a Woman, A Woman Is Not a Man: An Affirmation of Who God Created You to Be by Debbie Harris

The sonnet presents a Biblical view of gender—male and female—as a fixed, divinely ordained reality, in that Biblical Christ-given scriptural perspective, spanning childhood (boys and girls) to adulthood (men and women), enduring despite cultural pressures. It begins by describing two distinct forms created with unique traits: boys with strength, girls with grace, men with might, and women with charm. This distinction, set by God’s will, remains constant across a lifetime and resists human attempts to redefine it. The poem acknowledges modern challenges that “seek to reshape” these lines, yet emphasizes that God’s truth, rooted in creation, prevails. The final couplet urges believers to stand firm against cultural shifts, affirming that Christ, as Creator, established gender as male and female according to His design.

Biblical References:

  1. Genesis 1:27 – “So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” This underpins the Biblical Christ-given scriptural perspective of gender as a binary, intentional design.
  2. John 1:3 – “All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.” This supports the reference to “Christ, Creator,” highlighting His role in shaping gender within that scriptural perspective.
  3. Psalm 119:89 – “Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven.” This reinforces the sonnet’s theme that gender, in that Biblical Christ-given scriptural perspective, endures, unchanging over time or culture.

The sonnet thus reflects a Biblical view of gender as a sacred, unalterable gift from Christ, encouraging steadfastness in that Biblical Christ-given scriptural perspective.

Upon the earth, two forms in truth were cast,
The boy with strength, the girl with grace divine,
Through years they grow, yet still the die is cast,
A man with might, a woman’s charm to shine.
The Maker’s will, from youth to age decreed,
Bestows a name no mortal dare unwind,
Boys are not girls, nor men and women trade,
Their essence fixed, their purpose intertwined.
Yet voices clamor, seeking to reshape,
To blur the lines that heaven’s light has drawn,
But truth stands firm, from cradle past the drape,
God’s children stay as they were ever born.
Stand firm, uphold His truth o’er culture’s sway,
Christ, Creator, framed them—male, female—His way.

Sonnet of Unshakable Love: “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers … will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” — Romans 8:38-39 by Debbie Harris

The sonnet reflects the unshakable assurance of God’s love as expressed in Romans 8:38-39, asserting that no force—death, life, angels, rulers, time, or powers—can separate believers from Christ’s love. It portrays this love as a radiant, enduring force, culminating in the image of God as a mighty warrior who triumphantly protects and defends His people against all adversaries.

No death, nor life, nor angels’ lofty flight,
Nor rulers stern with power’s fleeting rod,
Can tear us from the love of Christ our God,
Whose grace outshines the dark of endless night.
The present fades, the future holds no fright,
No powers vast, nor depths where fears abode,
Shall break the bond by heaven’s hand bestowed,
In Jesus’ name, our everlasting light.
Through storms of time, through trials yet unseen,
His love remains, a fortress firm and true,
A promise sealed where mortal hopes convene.
No force above, below, can rend in two,
The shield of Him, our Warrior strong and keen,
Who smites all foes with Heaven’s thunderous hue.

The poem “Hymn of the Breaking Day” celebrates the dawn as a symphony of birdsong, where sparrows, finches, cardinals, robins, wrens, blackbirds, and warblers blend their voices in a melodic awakening. As sunlight touches the earth, their chorus transforms the silence of night into a vibrant hymn, symbolizing the Creator’s praise and the day’s rebirth, culminating in a sacred song from the Creator’s embrace.

The dawn unspools its golden gleam,
A chorus stirs the fading dream.
Through misty leaves, the birds ascend,
Their symphony begins to bend.

The sparrow pipes a sprightly tune,
The finch replies beneath the moon.
The cardinal glows with crimson call,
A soaring note to lift us all.

The robin spins a silken lay,
The wrens let ripples dance and play.
Each wingbeat hums through waking skies,
A melody where beauty lies.

The trees sway soft, their branches sing,
A stage for every fluttering wing.
The blackbird pours a velvet plea,
The warbler threads sweet filigree.

Their voices weave, entwine, and soar,
A song the night could not restore.
As sunlight gilds the dewy earth,
Their anthem hails the day’s rebirth.

The world awakes in lilting grace,
A hymn from our Creator’s embrace.

South Carolina, My Home: A Tribute by Debbie Harris

Inspirational

The sonnet celebrates the natural and cultural beauty of South Carolina, the speaker’s cherished home state. It begins with the coastal allure of Myrtle Beach, where sandy shores and breezes create a welcoming scene. It then moves to the Lowcountry, with its historic oaks and slow rivers, and Charleston, where past and present intertwine. The poem shifts to the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains, adorned with laurel and deep valleys, showcasing nature’s splendor. The final couplet expresses the speaker’s deep, personal bond to South Carolina, a “gem” whose charm captivates their soul forever.

The shores of Carolina stretch in grace,
Where waves caress the sands with tender care,
Myrtle’s green arms enfold a warm embrace,
And salt-kissed winds dance freely through the air.

The Lowcountry whispers tales of old,
Through moss-draped oaks and rivers winding slow,
In Charleston’s streets, where history’s told,
The past and present in sweet union grow.

The Blue Ridge rises, bold against the sky,
A painter’s dream of peaks and valleys deep,
With blooms of laurel catching every eye,
Nature’s wild heart in quiet beauty sleeps.

Oh, South Carolina, gem so fair and free,
Thy charm doth bind my grateful soul to thee.

Sonnet: “For This Corruptible Must Put On Incorruption, And This Mortal Must Put On Immortality” by Debbie Harris

Based on I Corinthians 15:53 (KJV)

When mortal flesh ascends to glorious might,
Beneath a vault where stars in splendor blaze,
The eyes, reborn, drink deep of boundless sights,
A realm unveiled to everlasting gaze.

The mountains bow, their peaks in golden flame,
Oceans unfurl, their depths a jeweled expanse,
Each hue ignites, too vast for words to name,
A world remade in beauty’s fierce advance.

The winds bear songs no living ear could claim,
Through endless skies, the hosts of light parade,
Time’s curtain parts, all history aflame,
A radiant host in endless ranks arrayed.

And there we stand, with vision crowned anew,
To see the boundless sights immortality reveals.
