It Is Finished: The Sinless Son Bearing the Curse, Forsaken of the Father, That Guilty Sinners Might Be Reconciled Through His Precious Blood by Debbie Harris

In shadowed hour when heaven wept,
The Lamb of God to slaughter crept;
From Eden’s curse to Calvary’s tree,
He bore the weight of sin for me.

Betrayed with kiss in garden night,
Arrested by the temple’s might;
False witnesses their lies did weave,
While Pilate washed, yet could not cleave
The guilt that stained his trembling hand—
The Just One judged by sinful band.

Scourged with cords of twisted thorn,
His back laid bare, His flesh was torn;
The soldiers’ mockery filled the air,
A purple robe, a crown of care;
They spat upon the King of kings,
Who formed the stars and gave them wings.

Up Golgotha the cross He bore,
His shoulders crushed, His strength no more;
Simon compelled to share the load,
As women wept along the road.
“Nail Him!” the raging crowd did cry,
While heaven’s hosts in silence sighed.

They pierced His hands, they pierced His feet,
And raised Him high where thieves did meet;
Between two criminals He hung,
The sinless One for sinners stung.
“Father, forgive,” His mercy spoke,
While blood in crimson rivers broke.

The sun withdrew its golden light,
Three hours of darkness cloaked the sight;
“My God, my God,” the anguish rang,
As Psalmist’s words from cross He sang;
Forsaken, crushed beneath the wave
Of wrath that we alone should crave.

He thirsted there in body frail,
Yet thirsted more for souls to hail;
The vinegar they gave in scorn,
While soldiers diced His garments torn.
“Behold thy mother,” to the son
He spoke, though pain had scarce begun.

Then, “It is finished!”—victory’s shout,
The work of ages now complete;
No more the veil, no more the doubt—
The temple’s heart in twain was rent,
The earth convulsed, the rocks were rent,
As heaven’s justice found content.

O depth of love! O holy wrath!
The Father turned from perfect Son,
That we, the rebels, lost in path
Of death and dark, might see the dawn.
He who knew no sin was made our sin,
That we in Him God’s righteousness might win.

The spear that pierced His sacred side
Released the flood—both blood and tide—
The water pure, the blood that saves,
For all who trust what grace has paved.
No work of ours, no tear, no vow
Could pay the debt—’twas finished now.

Behold the Man upon the tree:
The Bridegroom slain for His bride to be;
The Shepherd struck, the sheep scattered wide,
Yet gathered back by wounds that cried
Of mercy vast and love so deep
It stilled the storms and woke the sleep.

O soul, draw near this wondrous cross,
Count all but loss for such a cost;
Let pride dissolve in sorrow’s stream,
And boast alone in Christ’s redeemed.
For here the curse became the cure,
The grave prepared a conqueror.

Though Friday dark with death did reign,
The stone shall roll, the dawn shall break again;
But on this day we bow and mourn
The price that purchased our return.

All glory to the Lamb once slain,
Whose blood has washed away all stain;
To Father, Son, and Spirit three—
One God in perfect Trinity.
Amen.

We come not as the condemned before the bar,
Where Justice wields her unrelenting scar;
No guilty hands hang limp in dark despair,
No downcast eyes await the sentence there.

But lo! we stand before the Throne of Grace,
Where Mercy shines upon the sinner’s face.
Why, then, O soul, this sadness veiled in night,
When Heaven’s King invites thee to His light?

If thou wert called to justice’ awful seat,
Thy trembling frame might justly fear defeat;
But now the Sovereign in His silken love,
Robed in compassion from His throne above,

Bids thee approach with joy, with sacred fire,
And let thy countenance in gladness shine entire.
No more the weight of sin thy spirit binds—
The blood of Christ has loosed all guilty chains.

Lift up thy head, let holy delight arise,
Let praise ascend as incense to the skies;
For thou art favored, called, and dearly known,
Before the King who claims thee as His own.

Rejoice, beloved, in this boundless grace,
And meet His gaze with unveiled, radiant face.
The Throne that once would strike now bids thee sing—
Draw near, O soul, and worship Christ the King.

We come not trembling to the Judge’s bar,
Where guilty souls in fear and shame would stand;
No thunderous voice condemns us from afar,
But mercy’s gentle scepter rules the land.

Why then, O soul, this sadness on thy face,
When thou approachest Heaven’s Throne of Grace?
If justice held thee in its stern embrace,
Thy hands would hang, thy eyes in dread abase.

Yet now the King in robes of love appears,
Silken with grace, with boundless favor crowned;
He bids thee draw with joy, dispelling fears,
And calls thee near where holy peace is found.

Let not thy countenance in sorrow bend,
But shine with sacred delight and holy fire;
For thou art favored, loved, and called His friend—
Come, child of grace, and lift thy heart entire.

The veil is torn, the blood has spoken peace,
No condemnation waits where grace abounds;
Rejoice, O soul, and let all mourning cease,
Before the Throne where endless mercy sounds.

Maundy Thursday: The Upper Room by Debbie Harris

In Jerusalem’s shadowed upper room,
Where Passover’s slain lamb and blood-marked door
Still whispered of the angel’s dread perfume,
The Master knelt—though heaven’s King of yore.

He laid aside His garments, took the basin bright,
And wrapped a linen cloth about His frame,
Then poured the water, cool as Jordan’s night,
To cleanse the dust from feet worn by the flame

Of desert roads and Galilean wave,
The tax-man’s sandals scarred by Roman dust,
And one disciple’s step already grave—
Yet Jesus stooped to serve them as He must.

His hands that calmed the storm and raised the dead
Now cradled heels with tenderness profound,
Like mother’s touch upon a weary head,
In lamplight’s glow where holy love abound.

Peter protested loud with fervent cry,
“Lord, never shall You wash these feet of mine!”
But gentle answer came from heaven’s sky:
“If not, thou hast no part, no share divine.”

Then yielded he: “Lord, wash my hands and head!”
The Savior smiled beneath the golden light,
Knowing the path of love that lay ahead—
The full extent He’d show before the night.

He took the bread, unleavened, pierced, and striped,
Gave thanks, and broke it with hands yet unscarred:
“This is My body, given for your life.”
The cup of crimson wine He then prepared:

“My blood of new covenant, shed for sin’s release,
For many, for remission full and free.”
The elements passed round in solemn peace,
While grace flowed deeper than the swelling sea.

“A new command I give,” His voice rang clear,
Like thunder clothed in mercy’s softest tone,
“That you love one another, as I have loved here—
By serving, stooping, bleeding for your own.”

Not Sinai’s stone, but love that bends the knee,
That lays down life for friend and enemy.

Outside, Gethsemane’s olives gleamed in moon,
Their silver leaves soon pierced by torch and blade.
Inside, the air bore myrrh and coming doom,
With scent of broken bread and wine displayed.

We stand there still, you and I, in that dim place,
Our feet dust-laden from the world’s long road,
Hearts prone to wander, seeking His embrace,
Yet called to serve as He, our Servant, showed.

The basin waits. The linen waits as well.
The bread and cup He offers once again.
Come, kneel. Come, eat. Come, drink. Come, do His will.
And love as He loved—to the uttermost pain.

For this the night He was betrayed, yet loved
Us to the end, the God who stooped so low—
Washing, feeding, commanding from above,
The Lamb, the Man, the King we kneel to know.

Behold Him here: the Servant-King who reigns
By cross and mercy, in unfailing grace.

Two Hearts On Holy Wednesday by Debbie Harris

n Bethany’s quiet house, two paths unfold,
One breaks an alabaster jar of gold—
Pure spikenard cascades like tears of love,
Anointing head and feet of heaven’s Dove.

“She prepares Me for the grave,” the Master mild replies,
“Her deed will echo through the years, wherever My gospel flies.”
No calculation, no holding back the cost—
Just pure devotion, every drop is lost… yet never lost.

But nearby, silver whispers in a colder ear,
Thirty coins for blood, a bargain born of fear.
The same moment births both fragrance sweet and bitter gall—
One heart draws near in worship; one prepares to fall.

O Holy Wednesday, hold these mirrors to our soul:
Will we shatter self in love, or trade the Lord for gold?
Teach us, Savior, in this hush before the garden night,
To choose the breaking open, the perfume poured outright.

For though betrayal struck and pierced Your holy side,
Your mercy met the wound—You bore it, and You died.
The woman’s gift foreshadowed what the cross would fully prove:
That love poured out in fullness is the way that we are moved.

As the world grows darker still,
thread by thread the shadows weave,
yet Christ the Light of all the world
shines steady, pure, and unconquered.

No eclipse can quench His glow,
no tempest drown His gentle call;
He splits the night with mercy’s dawn
and lifts the weary, one and all.

Where fear would dim the human heart,
His radiance finds the hidden seam—
a single spark of holy flame
that turns the darkness into dawn.

When humble repentance whispers low
and faith unbars the iron door,
salvation pours like golden dawn
across the soul’s storm-battered shore.
The heart once cloaked in midnight’s shroud
now burns with heaven’s living fire—
a fountain of eternal water
where hope becomes not self, but Christ —
His glory shining in the Cross.
In Jesus’ gaze, the eyes of grace
transform each view from dread to gold;
what once seemed loss now blooms in grace,
and every pathway leads toward home.

So let the gloom do what it will,
the Light has already overcome;
in Him we rise, in Him we stand,
till every knee and shadow bows to Him.

Pillars in a Faithless Land: The Rechabites’ Refusal, Their Firm Stand, and the Lord’s Gracious Reward by Debbie Harris

Based in Jeremiah 35:1-19

Devotional Note: Standing Firm in a Faithless Land

In the days of Jeremiah, when Judah’s people had grown deaf to God’s repeated calls through His prophets, the Lord pointed to an unlikely example: the Rechabites. This nomadic family had kept a simple, centuries-old vow from their ancestor Jonadab—not to drink wine, not to build houses, not to plant vineyards, but to live as sojourners in tents. For generations, they obeyed without wavering.

The climax came in the temple courts. Even when the prophet Jeremiah himself—God’s own messenger—set wine before them and said, “Drink wine,” they refused. With calm resolve, they declared their commitment: “We will drink no wine, for Jonadab… commanded us” (Jeremiah 35:6). They would not compromise, even under pressure from a man of God.

God honored their integrity. While Judah faced judgment for disobedience to divine commands, the Rechabites received a promise: their line would never fail to stand before Him (Jeremiah 35:19). Their story stands as a rebuke and an encouragement: If mere humans can honor a forefather’s word so faithfully, how much more should we obey our Heavenly Father’s voice?

Today, amid a world that urges compromise on every side, let the Rechabites remind us: True faithfulness isn’t swayed by convenience, authority, or culture. It holds firm, generation after generation. May we, like them, stand as pillars in a faithless land—uncompromising in obedience, trusting that God sees and rewards the heart that says, “No,” to temptation and “Yes,” to His will.

In ancient days, when Judah’s heart grew cold,
And prophets cried in vain to wayward souls,
There dwelt a clan apart, the Rechabites by name,
Descended from the faithful Jonadab of old.

No vines they planted in the fertile plain,
No houses rose beneath their steady hands;
In tents they roamed, as wanderers of the waste,
True to the charge their ancestor had planned.

“Drink not the wine,” the solemn vow decreed,
“Nor strong drink touch your lips from age to age;
Build not a dwelling, sow no seed for gain,
But live as sojourners upon the stage.”

Through centuries the word was kept with care—
Fathers to sons, in unbroken chain of trust—
No compromise with ease, no bending to the crowd,
Though kingdoms rose and fell in war and dust.

Then came the hour of trial, sharp and bright:
The prophet Jeremiah, at the Lord’s command,
Brought them within the temple’s sacred courts,
And set before them cups from glowing stand.

“Drink wine,” he spoke, as heaven watched the scene,
A test to shame the stiff-necked sons of pride.
But they, with calm resolve and quiet grace,
Refused the draught, and steadfastly replied:

“We will not drink, for Jonadab our sire
Commanded us, and we have held it fast:
No wine shall pass these lips, no field be tilled,
No roof shall shelter while the ages last.”

O noble stand! Unyielding to the lure,
They stood as pillars ‘mid a faithless land.
No threat of scorn, no promise could allure—
Integrity their shield, obedience their brand.

The Lord beheld, and His voice thundered forth:
“Behold these sons who honor father’s word!
While Judah spurns My prophets day by day,
These keep their vow, though never have they heard

My thunder from the mount, nor seen My fire—
Yet they obey. Therefore I swear this day:
Because you would not compromise, but stood most firm,
Your line shall never fail to stand before My face.”

So let the tale endure through time’s long roll:
When pressure presses hard to yield and bend,
Recall the Rechabites, who would not bow,
And find in their example strength to stand.

They would not compromise! They stood most firm!
And God, who sees the heart’s unswerving aim,
Honored their integrity with endless grace—
A covenant of blessing in His name.

The Lord Reigneth: Let the Earth Rejoice in His Unshaken Throne by Debbie Harris

(Inspired by Psalm 93:1–4; 97:1)

The Lord reigneth! Let storms rage on and roar,
The floods rise high with thunder in their might—
Their crashing waves pound loud upon the shore,
A wild and furious noise that shakes the night.

They lift their voice in chaos, fierce and deep,
The thunder of the waters fills the air,
Yet high above, where endless glories keep,
The Lord is stronger—calm beyond compare.

No roar of mighty seas can shake His throne,
No pounding waves can drown His holy word;
The noise that once would leave the heart alone
Grows still before the power of the Lord.

O weary soul, when troubles crash and cry,
When fears like breakers break upon your shore,
Lift up your voice and let this truth reply:
The Lord reigneth—peace forevermore!

Let earth be glad, let trembling hearts find song,
For He who rules is Love, forever true;
Amid the roar, His reign remains so strong—
Rejoice, be glad: the Lord reigneth in you!

The Great Cloud of Witnesses: A Heavenly Throng Encircling the Race of Faith by Debbie Harris

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
Hebrews 12:1 (KJV)

Beneath the vault of heaven’s boundless dome,
Where silver stars in silent vigil gleam,
A mighty cloud of witnesses has come—
Not mist of earth, but souls in living dream.

They rise like dawn along the eastern rim,
Abel with lamb, his offering still bright;
Enoch, who walked with God and never dimmed,
Transported pure into eternal light.

Noah stands firm on waves that roared and broke,
His ark a cradle ‘mid the deluge’s roar;
Abraham lifts his gaze through fire and smoke,
Counting the stars that promise evermore.

Sarah laughs soft where barren years once reigned,
Her child a miracle in withered arms;
Moses ascends where Sinai’s thunder waned,
His face aglow with unconsuming charms.

Rahab’s scarlet cord gleams like a rose in flame,
A thread of mercy binding foe to friend;
The prophets, scarred yet singing God’s great name,
Their voices blend where earthly trails descend.

They throng the galleries of timeless air,
A vast assembly, radiant and vast—
Not spectators cold, but witnesses who share
The fire that kindles faith steadfast.

Surrounded thus, we shed our heavy chains,
The clinging sin, the weights that drag us low;
We loose the burdens born of doubt and pains,
And rise to run where living rivers flow.

The track lies clear, marked out by ancient grace,
Through shadowed vales and peaks of golden day;
With eyes on Him who fixed His gaze in place—
The cross’s shame, the joy that lights the way.

O cloud of glory, shimmering and near,
Your stories gleam like constellations wide;
We press on swift, for love has conquered fear,
And heaven’s chorus calls us to abide.

So run, beloved, with heart aflame and free,
Till we shall join that throng beyond the veil,
Where every witness bows in ecstasy
Before the Lamb who makes all sorrow pale.

Endless Treasures Hidden in Christ: In Whom Are All the Riches of Wisdom and Knowledge(Colossians 2:3) by Debbie Harris

To Pep—
dear friend, fellow poet, and faithful disciple in Christ—
who once spoke these words in gentle counsel:
“Study Christ, for His treasures are endless.”
Your encouragement still points the way,
especially mine, as it kindled and shaped my own seeking heart. I will see you in Heaven!

Colossians 2:3 – in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

In Christ the vaults stand open though concealed,
not barred to any heart that dares to seek,
but draped in gentle mystery, revealed
layer by layer where the humble speak.

All treasures of wisdom, old and ever-new,
rest hidden here—not strewn in fleeting dust
of mortal striving, nor in pages we pursue,
but gathered whole in Him, the living trust.

Knowledge glimmers like deep-buried gold,
untouched by years, unspent by passing days;
each truth a jewel that draws us from the cold
of self toward wonder, awe, and endless praise.

No doctorate can plumb these depths alone,
no counsel map the soul’s true remedy.
Study Christ—let every line be known
within His arms, where wisdom sets us free.

A gentle voice once spoke it clear and true:
His riches never fade, they multiply.
Turn here, O seeker, find forever new
the endless store that satisfies the cry.

For in Him hidden, yet unveiled to those
who knock, who seek, who rest before His face—
the treasures flow like rivers no one knows
until they drink, until their thirst finds grace.
