The sonnet, titled “Even When We Were Dead in Our Trespasses, He Made Us Alive Together with Christ”, explores the themes of Ephesians 2:5—humanity’s spiritual death due to sin and God’s gracious act of granting new life through Christ. It begins by depicting a state of hopelessness, where humans are trapped in trespasses, unable to save themselves. Divine mercy intervenes, uniting believers with Christ to break sin’s chains and restore them through unearned grace. The poem culminates in triumph, with Christ’s victory over hell paving the way for believers to one day reign with Him in glory.

When we lay dead, entombed in trespass deep,
Our hearts were stone, our spirits bound in night,
No strength within to climb salvation’s steep,
Nor will to seek the dawn of holy light.
Yet mercy stirred where mortal hope had ceased,
A voice divine through silence softly broke,
With Christ conjoined, our souls from death released,
In grace reborn, the chains of sin unyoke.
No deed of ours could earn this sacred gain,
For love alone bestowed the victor’s crown,
A gift unasked, through blood and bitter pain,
Restored us whole where guilt had cast us down.
Through Him we rise, hell’s gates in ruin lie,
By grace enthroned, we will reign with Christ on high.

From Sinner To Royally Redeemed by Debbie Harris

The sonnet traces a transformative journey from a state of sin and despair to one of royal redemption through Jesus Christ. It begins with a soul trapped in darkness and shame, powerless until the King of glory intervenes. Through His sacrifice—marked by pierced hands and outpoured blood—the soul is freed and elevated from sinner to a redeemed heir. A crown awaits this redeemed soul, as Jesus reigns sovereign on the throne, bestowing grace and royal dignity. The poem concludes with a celebration of this miracle, lifting the soul from dust to a place of honor under Christ’s eternal reign, resonating with themes of mercy, love, and boundless grace.

In chains of sin, a soul once groped in night,
Ensnared by shame, where shadows held their sway,
No light within, no power to take flight,
A prisoner bound till mercy paved the way.
From heaven’s height, the King of glory stooped,
With pierced hands, He shattered every chain,
His blood outpoured, the lost to Him were grouped,
From sinner to royally redeemed to reign.

A crown awaits, since Jesus holds the throne,
His grace adorns the soul in royal hue,
Redemption’s song through endless ages blown,
His sovereign love makes all things pure and new.
O miracle, from dust to royal place,
Beneath His reign, the heart finds boundless grace.

This Christ-centered anthem celebrates the freedom and security found in Jesus, rooted in the truth of Romans 8:1—there is no condemnation for those in Christ. Across five verses, it explores themes of redemption, grace, renewal, and unshakable belonging. The verses declare that guilt and shame are erased by Christ’s sacrifice, that believers are made new and fully known in Him, and that no force can separate them from His love. The repeating refrain reinforces the core message: “No condemnation, I’m in Christ Jesus, His love has freed us,” offering a triumphant, singable proclamation of peace and safety in God’s grace. A bridge highlights the power of the cross, sealing the anthem’s focus on Christ’s victory and the believer’s freedom.

Verse 1
In Christ alone, my soul is free,
No chains of guilt can hold me.
His love has won, His grace complete,
I stand redeemed at mercy’s feet.

Refrain
No condemnation, I’m in Christ Jesus,
No condemnation, His love has freed us.
No condemnation, my heart will sing,
Forever safe beneath His wings.

Verse 2
The past is gone, the slate is clean,
His sacrifice has intervened.
No fear, no shame, just peace divine,
In Jesus’ name, salvation’s mine.

Refrain
No condemnation, I’m in Christ Jesus,
No condemnation, His love has freed us.
No condemnation, my heart will sing,
Forever safe beneath His wings.

Verse 3
The shadows fade, His light breaks through,
A child of God, I’m born anew.
No sin too deep, no stain too strong,
In Christ, I find where I belong.

Verse 4
The accuser’s voice is silenced now,
Before the throne, I humbly bow.
His righteousness becomes my own,
In Jesus, I am fully known.

Refrain
No condemnation, I’m in Christ Jesus,
No condemnation, His love has freed us.
No condemnation, my heart will sing,
Forever safe beneath His wings.

Verse 5
Oh, the cross has spoken, the verdict’s clear,
No judgment falls where grace is near.
His blood has paid, His word is true,
I’m free in Christ, and so are you!

Refrain
No condemnation, I’m in Christ Jesus,
No condemnation, His love has freed us.
No condemnation, my heart will sing,
Forever safe beneath His wings.

Verse 6
Through every storm, His promise stands,
My life is held within His hands.
No power of hell can tear me away,
In Christ, I’m His both now and always.

Refrain
No condemnation, I’m in Christ Jesus,
No condemnation, His love has freed us.
No condemnation, my heart will sing,
Forever safe beneath His wings.

The Seemingly Lost Holy Discipline of Building Each Other Up Through Our Words by Debbie Harris

The poem reflects on a modern society that has drifted from the Biblical mandate to encourage and strengthen one another through words, as exemplified in Hebrews 10:24-25 (“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together… but encouraging one another”) and 1 Thessalonians 5:11 (“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing”). It begins by establishing Christ as the foundation of peace, urging believers to use their words to proclaim His love and fortify the faithful. The second stanza laments the current state—where silence and disconnection prevail instead of the vibrant encouragement Scripture calls for. Finally, it offers hope: through the Holy Spirit, our words can still rise to edify, acting as a bridge to extend Christ’s eternal love and mend what’s broken. The poem underscores this “holy discipline” as both a lost art and a recoverable gift rooted in faith.

In Christ, our cornerstone of peace,
We’re called to speak, to never cease,
With words that build, His love proclaim,
To strengthen hearts in Jesus’ name.

The tongue, a tool by grace refined,
To lift the weak, the lost to bind,
Yet silence reigns where faith should sing,
A muted chord, a broken string.

His Spirit stirs, our voices raise,
To edify through endless days,
In Him, our speech a bridge extends,
His love through us forever mends.

The poem, titled “Seatherny’s Royal Symphony,” captures a serene moment at dawn where the beauty of nature and divine creation intertwine. A brief note explains that “seatherny” is a coined term for the peace felt when hearing birdsong. The verses describe royal, melodic notes and bird-inspired “feathered sonnets” filling the morning air, a harmonious “refrain” crafted by Christ. This beauty flows outward, unfolding like a symphony, evoking a sense of ongoing wonder and tranquility.

Note: “Seatherny” is a coined term meaning the serenity felt when listening to birdsong.

Royal notes through dawn’s embrace,
Feathered sonnets fill the space,
Christ created this sweet refrain,
Beauty flows, a symphony unfolds.

A Biblical Poetic Reflection On Light Found In The Scriptures by Debbie Harris

A spark ignites the void’s deep night,
“Let there be!”—and dawn unfurls,
The primal light of worlds unborn,
God’s voice in radiant swirls.

He cloaks Himself in beams divine,
A garment spun of endless day,
The Father of lights, unshadowed, pure,
No darkness dares to stay.

A Star descends, the Word made flesh,
The true light piercing gloom,
“I am the light!” He boldly cries,
Life’s flame in death’s cold tomb.

A lamp aglow, His word unfolds,
A path through shadows cast,
Wisdom’s gleam for stumbling feet,
A glow that holds us fast.

From darkened lands, a dawn breaks forth,
Salvation’s rays arise,
Righteousness in brilliance burns,
A hope that never dies.

We, too, are kindled—chosen sparks,
To shine where night holds sway,
Children of light, a city bright,
Reflecting Heaven’s ray.

Against the dark, the light contends,
A war of truth and grace,
Evil flees where knowledge glows,
Christ’s glory in our face.

And yet to come, the final gleam,
No sun, no moon, no flame,
The Lamb’s own light, the Lord’s own fire,
Eternal in His name.

The Throne’s Intercessor, Jesus Christ, Our Lord by Debbie Harris

The poem depicts Jesus Christ’s humble descent from divine glory to earthly dust, driven by a deep and just love. Through this condescension, He embraces humanity’s shame and sorrow, freeing the captives. Standing before God’s throne with scarred hands, He serves as our advocate, interceding with mercy and ultimately claiming us as His own in an act of eternal redemption.

From heights of endless light,
He stepped into the dust—
The condescension of Christ,
A love so deep, so just.

Divinity laid low,
To bear our broken plea,
He took our shame, our woe,
To set the captive free.

Before the throne He stands,
Our voice in mercy’s court,
With scarred and pleading hands,
He claims us as His own.

The poem portrays a transformative journey through a powerful, royal love that redeems the soul. This love crowns the individual with Christ’s righteousness, allowing God to see His Son when He looks upon us. Adorned with salvation’s golden crown and a blazing robe of righteousness, woven with mercy’s blessings, the redeemed soul emerges as a magnificent masterpiece—studded with gold, silver, and gemstones—reflecting the brilliance of our Savior’s redeeming grace.

A royal redeemed love,
Burning strong within,
Transforms a life—
A soul newly crowned
With Christ’s righteousness.

When God looks upon us,
He sees His Son—
Salvation’s golden crown agleam,
A robe of righteousness ablaze,
Threaded with mercy’s blessings,
And we become the gold, silver,
Gemstone-studded masterpiece
Of our Savior’s redeeming grace.

The poem “Emerald Praise” celebrates the beauty of trees, likening their leaves to a string of emeralds adorning rough bark. It expresses awe and admiration, attributing this natural splendor to God’s glorious creation in a concise, vivid burst of imagery and reverence.

String of emeralds
Strung on bark,
This is God’s
Glorious creation
Of trees!

The Robes Of The King Of Kings And Lord Of Lords by Debbie Harris

The poem envisions Jesus Christ as the King of Kings, adorned in majestic, divine garments that reflect His royal authority and tender grace. His robes, white as dawn with golden threads, symbolize purity and glory, while a crimson and purple mantle signifies His sacrificial love and sovereignty. Crowned with stars and radiant jewels, He transcends earthly kingship. The final stanza portrays His attire proclaiming His might, yet His graceful presence enhances it, revealing Him as both a Shepherd and King who lovingly summons us to draw near.

Beneath the heavens’ boundless dome,
He reigns where mortal kings would roam,
In garments spun from light divine,
A splendor mortal eyes define.

White as dawn, His robes unfurl,
A purity to cleanse the world,
With golden threads, like rivers bright,
Weaving glory through the night.

A mantle falls, a crimson tide,
A sacred hue from love’s own side,
Purple flows, a royal shade,
Sovereign grace in every fold.

No thorns to pierce His brow this day,
A crown of stars now lights His way,
Jewels gleam with radiant beams,
Eternal King in endless gleams.

His robes proclaim His royal might,
A vesture vast as heaven’s height,
His grace adorns the robes He wears,
The Shepherd King who calls us near.
