And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

2 Kings 6:17 (KJV)

The poem is a prayerful plea for divine revelation, inspired by the biblical story of Elisha. It asks God to open the speaker’s eyes to see beyond earthly trials and fears, revealing the unseen spiritual reality—symbolized by blazing chariots and horses ascending toward the stars. The speaker seeks clear, pure vision to discern biblical truth, awaken the soul, and inspire praise for God’s name, reflecting a deep desire for faith and connection to eternity.

Lord, like Elisha long ago,
Through trials fierce, your might to show,
Open our eyes that we may see,
The light unseen, eternity.

Chariots blaze with holy fire,
Horses climb where stars aspire,
Beyond the shroud of doubt and fear,
Your host stands near, so strong, so clear.

Grant us sight, so pure, so true,
To pierce the dark, find what’s biblically true,
A vision vast, a sacred beam,
Awake our souls to praise your name.

Rejoice, O Royal Heirs, In The Unshakable Reign Of Our Lord And Savior, Jesus Christ by Debbie Harris

The shadows falter, Satan’s hour decays,
A fleeting wrath ensnared in fading haze.
Through ruin’s shroud, a holy Light breaks free,
A Savior’s whisper fells the enemy.

One breath, one word, one glance of sovereign fire,
Shall doom the foe to ash and silent mire.
Fear not the wretch who thrashes in his snare,
For Christ, our King, reigns o’er the earth and air.

Rejoice, O royal heirs, by grace adorned,
In Him our hope rises, unscathed, reborn.
Though storms may howl, His throne shall never fail,
Our victory crowns Jesus Christ, Lord of all.

The poem portrays spring’s arrival as a fragrant, flower-filled metaphor for being “born again,” where nature’s splendor—embodied by lavender, rose, lilac, and lily—represents the privilege and beauty of this triumphant renewal, highlighting the blessings of such a glorious rebirth.

The coming of Spring

is but a fragrant lavender

rose, lilac, and lily filled

metaphor that there is

such beauty, blessings,

and royal privilege in

being gloriously and

triumphantly born again!

Every Knee Will Bow and Every Tongue Confess That Jesus Is Lord by Debbie Harris

The sonnet, titled “Every Knee Will Bow and Every Tongue Confess That Jesus Is Lord,” explores Christianity’s conquering promise—universal submission to Jesus Christ. It draws directly from Philippians 2:10-11: “that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” The poem paints a vivid picture of this inevitability: a name that shatters earthly power, a cross that rewrites existence, and a King whose reign pulses through all creation. Pride crumbles, fortresses fall, and no soul escapes the divine tide. The climax echoes the verse explicitly—”So every knee will bow, as scriptures swear, / And every tongue confess that Jesus reigns”—culminating in a vision of Christ’s eternal sovereignty, hailed as Lord from dust to stars.

A name cuts sharp where earthly thrones erode,
Each rebel soul meets judgment’s steady gaze,
Through time’s expanse, His writ in blood bestowed,
Ignites the dark with unrelenting rays.
No fortress stands against the tide’s advance,
The cross alone rewrites the world’s design,
All pride dissolves in that eternal glance,
Where grace and power fatally entwine.
So every knee will bow, as scriptures swear,
And every tongue confess that Jesus reigns,
A truth no mortal will can disrepair,
The King whose pulse through all creation strains.
From dust to stars, His sovereignty is scored,
The Christ, forever hailed as Lord.

Brought Near By The Precious Blood Of Jesus Christ by Debbie Harris

Once lost, we wandered far from heaven’s light,
No part in Israel’s hope, no promise near,
Estranged from God, engulfed by endless night,
Our souls adrift, consumed by doubt and fear.
The covenants of grace we could not share,
Exiled from mercy, aliens to peace,
With hollow hearts, we languished in despair,
Our chains of sin denied us sweet release.
Yet Christ, with love divine, our fate reversed,
His blood outpoured, a ransom pure and free,
The far-off soul in Him is now immersed,
A bridge to God through crimson victory.
By sacrifice, the distant find their place,
In Him, we’re near, redeemed by boundless grace.

All Have Sinned, But Only the Repentant Find Redemption at Christ’s Cross by Debbie Harris

The sonnet begins by affirming that all people—kings, beggars, and regular folk—have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory, united in their imperfection regardless of status. It then shifts to the cross, where Christ’s mercy reigns, offering salvation to all who stand equal before it. Redemption, however, comes only to those who repent and believe, their sins broken by Christ’s power, granting them new life through grace.

Beneath the heavens’ vast and boundless gaze,
All souls have strayed from glory’s perfect light,
Each heart, though bold, in sin’s dark tangle sways,
And none can claim a pure and spotless right.
The king, the beggar, regular folk, all fall,
No crown nor want nor common trade can save,
For guilt unites them under mercy’s call,
Where shadows cloak the path from womb to grave.
Yet at the cross, where Christ in mercy reigns,
All stand as one, salvation’s arms embrace,
Repentance flows, belief in Him sustains,
A flood of grace redeems through boundless faith.
There sin’s grim hold by Christ’s own hand is torn,
And souls are saved where boundless life is born.

A Sonnet of Lamentation and Yearning For The Return To Jesus Christ, His Holy Word, And His Most Sacred Ways Amidst A Modern Sodom and Gomorrah by Debbie Harris

The world, a mirror cracked by prideful hands,
Reflects a shadowed Sodom’s brazen glow,
Where virtue bends to vice in shifting sands,
And hearts forget the streams from which they flow.
Once walked a Man with words of piercing light,
His voice a balm, His steps a holy guide,
He called the lost from darkness into sight,
And bore the cross where sin and mercy vied.

Yet now we dance to tunes of hollow cheer,
Our altars cold, our lamps but faintly burn,
A Gomorrah blooms where grace once drew near,
And still His whisper bids us to return.
Oh, Christ, restore what folly has undone,
Thy Word, our dawn, Thy ways, our endless sun.

Sonnet: “For This Corruptible Must Put On Incorruption, And This Mortal Must Put On Immortality” by Debbie Harris

Based on I Corinthians 15:53 (KJV)

When mortal flesh ascends to glorious might,
Beneath a vault where stars in splendor blaze,
The eyes, reborn, drink deep of boundless sights,
A realm unveiled to everlasting gaze.

The mountains bow, their peaks in golden flame,
Oceans unfurl, their depths a jeweled expanse,
Each hue ignites, too vast for words to name,
A world remade in beauty’s fierce advance.

The winds bear songs no living ear could claim,
Through endless skies, the hosts of light parade,
Time’s curtain parts, all history aflame,
A radiant host in endless ranks arrayed.

And there we stand, with vision crowned anew,
To see the boundless sights immortality reveals.

The World’s Reluctant Tolerance Of A Tame Faith Verses The Faith Ignited By Biblical Conviction by Debbie Harris

The poem contrasts a tame, private Christianity—tolerated by the world when quiet and unassertive—with the faith ignited by Biblical conviction. This bold, Scripture-rooted faith incites persecutions and fury as it challenges the status quo. While a meek creed avoids conflict, the faith burning with God’s Word endures opposition, forcing the world to confront what it continually rejects, and culminates in the passionate, unbowed Christian guided by Heaven.

The world permits a faith that softly gleams,
A whispered prayer, a gospel hushed and meek,
A church that kneels in shadows, lost in dreams,
Too timid to disturb the silence bleak.
But rises now a faith, by Scripture fired,
Ignited bold with Biblical decree—
Persecutions rage, the darkened wrath inspired,
Their fury storms where truth stands firm and free.
For quiet creeds no empires need to sway,
No comfort’s pierced by murmurs in the pew,
Yet faith aflame with God’s own Word holds sway,
And bids the world face what it long eschews.
Though trials descend, the faithful still abide,
A Christian fierce, unbowed, by Heaven guided.

The Unshaken Truth Of Marriage As God Decreed: One Man, One Woman by Debbie Harris

A bond divine, by God’s own hand decreed,
One man, one woman joined in sacred rite,
A truth eternal, sown in holy deed,
To stand as one beneath His boundless light.
No mortal voice can shift this firm design,
For heaven spoke its will in days of old,
Two souls, distinct, in unity align,
A covenant no age shall e’er remold.
The world may drift with whims of fleeting day,
Yet God’s command endures, unshaken, strong,
Its purity no storm can sweep away.
So let this truth in every soul revive,
From Eden’s dawn, their union shall strive,
One man, one woman, blessed by God to thrive.
