Summary of the Sonnet: A Poetic Tribute to the Great Redeemer, Lord of Endless Might, and Everlasting Comforter, Whose Presence Fortifies the Soul in the Fiercest Fight of Toilsome Duties

Inspired by 2 Timothy 4:17 (KJV), the sonnet portrays a speaker overwhelmed by daunting tasks, likened to towering cliffs and heavy burdens. Despite faltering courage, the speaker finds strength through the constant presence of God, described with grand titles: the Everlasting Comforter and Font, Mighty Fortress, Sovereign Shepherd, and Great Redeemer, Lord of Endless Might. God’s grace renews the speaker’s spirit, dispels fear, and guides them through relentless challenges. The sonnet culminates in a triumphant declaration of God’s boundless strength as a refuge, enabling the speaker to persevere in the fiercest struggles of arduous duties.

When daunting tasks like mountains rise to view,
And weary soul shrinks back from toilsome load,
The Lord, my steadfast guide, stands ever true,
His strength divine upon my heart bestowed.

Though labors steep demand my faltering might,
His presence kindles fire within my breast,
Each arduous step, He bathes in holy light,
And bids my trembling hands to find their zest.

No task too vast, no burden breaks my frame,
When He, my rock, upholds me in His care,
Through trials fierce, His love remains the same,
And scatters fear with grace beyond compare.

O Lord, with Thee, no hardship shall I flee,
Thy strength my shield through all eternity.

The sonnet asserts that Jesus will not alter the Scriptures to cater to human carnal desires. It portrays Scripture as an unyielding, divine truth that pierces darkness and calls for genuine repentance and transformation. Emphasizing Christ’s unwavering love and eternal truth, the poem urges readers to forsake worldly desires, follow His teachings in action, and find true peace through adherence to His enduring Word.

No softened verse shall Christ’s own words remake,
To suit the fleeting whims of fleshly desire.
His truth, a flame, does worldly masks forsake,
And calls the soul to rise from sinful mire.
The Scripture stands, unyielding, sharp, and clear,
A sword to pierce where hearts in darkness dwell.
No carnal taste can bend its holy sphere,
Nor tame the voice that speaks of heaven and hell.
For Jesus, love is not a pliant reed,
But truth eternal, steadfast, uncontained.
He bids us follow, not in word, but deed,
To lose our lives, that life may be regained.
So heed the call, let worldly wants decrease,
His Word endures, and grants the heart true peace.

The sonnet, titled “Alleluia, The Lord God Omnipotent Reigns in Majestic Victory,” is a majestic and victorious poetic reflection inspired by Revelation 19:6. It celebrates the sovereign reign of God, depicted through vivid imagery of a heavenly multitude praising with thunderous voices, like roaring oceans and mighty storms. The poem exalts God’s eternal, unchallenged authority, His radiant throne, and His triumph over all foes, echoing the “Alleluia” of the biblical verse. It conveys a tone of awe, grandeur, and unwavering devotion, affirming God’s omnipotence and the universal worship He commands.

In halls of heaven, voices rise as one,
A multitude, like oceans’ ceaseless roar,
Their thunder shakes the stars, the victory won,
Proclaiming loud what saints and angels adore.
“Alleluia!” rings the royal cry,
For God omnipotent in glory reigns,
His scepter gleams beneath the endless sky,
No foe endures, no shadow breaks His chains.
Majestic is His throne, eternal, vast,
The King of kings in radiant splendor stands,
His triumph echoes through the ages past,
And holds the Heavens and earth in His mighty hands.
O sovereign Lord, victorious and true,
All heaven and earth sing endless praise to You.

Sonnet: Against Liberal Progressives Erroneously and Grievously De-Lionizing the Gospel of Jesus Christ by Debbie Harris

The sonnet, titled “Against Liberal Progressives Erroneously and Grievously De-Lionizing the Gospel of Jesus Christ,” critiques the tendency of liberal progressives to dilute the gospel’s power. It emphasizes that true worship belongs to Jesus Christ, not to charming or softened rhetoric. The poem accuses progressives of weakening Christ’s authority by softening His call to repentance and truth, thus “de-lionizing” His fierce, transformative gospel. It reaffirms Christ’s balanced approach—speaking truth about sin with love, as seen in His command to “repent, and sin no more.” The sonnet calls believers, all sinners saved by grace, to uphold the gospel’s boldness, rejecting diluted versions and honoring Christ as the reigning “Lion” whose truth endures.

We bow not to the charm of winsome grace,
Nor bend to pleasing words that dull the soul.
Our worship soars to Christ, His righteous face,
Who wields the truth to make the broken whole.

Progressives, cloaked in softness, dim His light,
De-lionizing Christ, they strip His might.
They shroud the gospel’s edge, its piercing bite,
And trade His roar for whispers in the night.

Yet Jesus spoke of sin with love’s clear call,
“Repent, and sin no more,” His voice resounds.
As sinners saved by grace, we heed His thrall,
Exposing wrong, we stand on holy grounds.

No watered Word shall tame our Savior’s reign,
For Christ, the Lion, lives to rule again.

Title: A Cycle of Nine Sonnets in Reverent Contemplation of the Lord’s Prayer, from Hallowed Name to Eternal Amen

Inspiration: The Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13, KJV), divided into nine phrases:

  1. Our Father which art in heaven
  2. Hallowed be thy name
  3. Thy kingdom come
  4. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven
  5. Give us this day our daily bread
  6. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors
  7. And lead us not into temptation
  8. But deliver us from evil
  9. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen

Structure:

  • Nine Sonnets: One sonnet per phrase, creating a cohesive cycle that traces the prayer’s spiritual arc from adoration to supplication to praise.
  • Form: Each sonnet is a Shakespearean sonnet (14 lines, iambic pentameter, rhyme scheme ABAB CDCD EFEF GG).
  • Tone: Reverent, contemplative, and devotional, inviting deep reflection on the prayer’s theological and emotional resonance.

Themes and Content:

  • The series explores the prayer’s core themes: God’s fatherhood, holiness, sovereignty, human dependence, forgiveness, guidance, protection, and eternal glory.
  • Imagery (e.g., light, thrones, manna, shields) blends biblical motifs with human experience, grounding spiritual truths in relatable terms.
  • Each sonnet meditates on its phrase’s significance:
  1. God’s intimate yet transcendent fatherhood.
  2. The sanctity of God’s name.
  3. Longing for divine justice and rule.
  4. Submission to God’s perfect will.
  5. Trust in God’s daily provision.
  6. The cycle of receiving and giving forgiveness.
  7. Seeking strength against sin’s allure.
  8. Deliverance from spiritual and moral evil.
  9. Celebrating God’s eternal dominion, sealed with “Amen.”

Title Significance:

  • Cycle: Highlights the interconnected nine-part structure.
  • Reverent Contemplation: Reflects the meditative, worshipful tone.
  • From Hallowed Name to Eternal Amen: Captures the prayer’s journey from sanctifying God’s name to affirming His eternal glory.

Purpose: The series serves as both a poetic and spiritual work, suitable for devotional reading, literary appreciation, or performance, inviting readers to engage deeply with the Lord’s Prayer through verse.

Inspired by Matthew 6:9-13 (KJV)

Sonnet 1: Our Father which art in heaven

O Father, seated high in realms of light,
Our voices rise to call Thee ours, divine,
Thy love descends through everlasting night,
To claim us children of Thy grand design.
In heaven’s courts, where angels sing Thy praise,
Thy throne eternal radiates with grace,
Yet near Thou art, through all our fleeting days,
A parent’s heart within a sacred place.
No distant king, but kin to mortal clay,
Thou formed our souls and bid them seek Thy face,
In prayer we find Thee, never far away,
Thy boundless mercy fills the heart’s embrace.
Our Father, let us rest in Thee above,
And know Thy name as shelter, home, and love.

Sonnet 2: Hallowed be thy name

Thy name, O Lord, is holy, set apart,
A sacred flame that burns through worldly shame,
It echoes pure within the contrite heart,
And bids the soul to glorify Thy fame.
No tongue can taint what heaven holds so dear,
Thy title shines beyond our fleeting strife,
Yet we, on earth, with reverence draw near,
To guard Thy name in every deed of life.
From profane lips, we seek to keep it free,
With psalms and prayers, we lift it to the skies,
Each act of love a hallowing decree,
That bids Thy glory in our hearts arise.
O let Thy name be sanctified anew,
In all we say, and all we strive to do.

Sonnet 3: Thy kingdom come

We cry for heaven’s reign to rend the skies,
Thy kingdom come, O Lord, with justice swift,
To heal the earth where sorrow’s shadow lies,
And raise the lowly with Thy holy gift.
No mortal crown can match Thy righteous rule,
Where peace and truth in harmony abide,
We long for Thee to make all things anew,
And dry the tears that human hands have cried.
In hearts and nations, let Thy throne descend,
Break chains of sin, let mercy’s banner wave,
With fervent prayer, we seek Thy will to bend,
The world to Thee, its Maker and its grave.
O haste the day when every knee shall bow,
And Thy great kingdom dawns upon us now.

Sonnet 4: Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven

As angels bow in heaven’s radiant sphere,
Obeying Thee with swift and joyful might,
So teach us, Lord, to seek Thy will sincere,
And walk in truth beneath Thy holy sight.
On earth, where wayward hearts so often stray,
We crave Thy guidance, steady as the stars,
To bend our wills to Thine in all our days,
And bear Thy purpose through our mortal scars.
No rebel thought shall sever us from Thee,
Thy perfect will our refuge and our call,
In every deed, let heaven’s pattern be,
The mirror of Thy glory over all.
O let Thy will on earth be done, we pray,
As seraphs serve in everlasting day.

Sonnet 5: Give us this day our daily bread

Each morn Thy hand provides our humble feast,
O Lord, who fed the thousands by Thy word,
Our daily bread, from Thee, is grace released,
Sustaining life where want and fear are stirred.
No storehouse holds the wealth we truly need,
Thy manna falls anew with every dawn,
In simple trust, we find our souls are freed,
To lean on Thee till earthly cares are gone.
Not bread alone, but Christ, the living spring,
Who fills the heart with nourishment divine,
We seek Thy gifts, and to Thy table bring,
Our grateful hearts, forever wholly Thine.
This day, O God, our every need supply,
And teach us trust beneath Thy watchful sky.

Sonnet 6: And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors

Our debts, O Lord, like chains, our souls confine,
Yet in Thy mercy, Thou dost set us free,
Forgive our sins, as we, with hearts divine,
Release the wrongs that others wrought to thee.
No grudge shall bind what grace has torn apart,
Thy pardon flows where human wrath would reign,
We mirror Thee, and cleanse the bitter heart,
To loose the debtor from his guilty pain.
O teach us, Lord, to give as we receive,
To break the cycle of our vengeful ways,
In love’s embrace, let enmity bereave,
And heal the wounds of unforgiving days.
Thy mercy grants us liberty to live,
As we forgive, so may we be forgiven.

Sonnet 7: And lead us not into temptation

The paths of sin allure with fleeting gleam,
Yet Thou, O Lord, dost guide our faltering feet,
Lead us from snares that hide in every dream,
Where tempters weave their lies in soft deceit.
Our hearts are frail, too swift to chase the flame,
That burns but leaves us empty, lost, and torn,
We seek Thy strength to shun the serpent’s claim,
And walk the way where righteousness is born.
No trial’s power can break Thy steadfast hand,
That holds us firm when shadows bid us stray,
In every test, Thy wisdom helps us stand,
And keeps our souls upon the narrow way.
O lead us, Lord, where temptation shall cease,
And fill our hearts with Thy eternal peace.

Sonnet 8: But deliver us from evil

From evil’s grasp, O Lord, our souls redeem,
Its darkness creeps to bind us in despair,
Yet Thou, our shield, dost shatter every scheme,
And guard Thy flock with providential care.
The foe unseen, with malice ever near,
Would steal our hope and draw us to the night,
But in Thy name, we rise above our fear,
And find deliverance in Thy holy light.
No power of hell can stand against Thy might,
Thy cross has crushed the adversary’s reign,
In Thee, we triumph through the fiercest fight,
And claim the victory that shall remain.
O save us, Lord, from evil’s cruel intent,
And keep us safe till heaven’s veil is rent.

Sonnet 9: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen

All glory, power, and kingdom, Thine alone,
Eternal God, whose reign shall never fade,
Thy sovereignty o’er every heart and throne,
Is sung by saints in light that never wanes.
No rival claims the honor due to Thee,
Thy might upholds the heavens and the earth,
Forevermore, Thy name shall hallowed be,
The source of life, the fount of endless worth.
We join the chorus of the heavenly host,
To laud Thy majesty with fervent voice,
In every age, Thy praise shall be our boast,
And in Thy will, our souls shall e’er rejoice.
Amen, we cry, let earth and sky proclaim,
Thine is the glory, evermore the same.

A Poetic Pilgrimage Through Psalm 119: Quatrains Of The Eternal Word- Psalm 119 : 137-160 by Debbie Harris

Introduction To A Poetic Pilgrimage Through Psalm 119: Quatrains Exalting the Eternal Word

Born from a poet’s ardent love for Jesus Christ and the holy, inerrant, transforming, living, beauty-filled Word of God, Quatrains of the Eternal Word: Psalm 119 in Radiant Verse is a poetic homage to Psalm 119, Scripture’s most profound celebration of God’s law. This intricate acrostic poem, unfolding across 176 verses in 22 stanzas tied to the Hebrew alphabet, exalts the Word as a radiant lamp, a priceless treasure, and a steadfast guide. To honor its divine splendor, this project crafts a quatrain—a four-line poem in ABAB rhyme and iambic pentameter—for each verse, weaving a lyrical tapestry that mirrors the psalm’s reverence and the poet’s devotion.

The inspiration for this work springs from a heart enraptured by Jesus, the Eternal Word incarnate (John 1:1), who embodies and fulfills the law’s every precept (Matthew 5:17). The poet’s love for Christ, coupled with awe for Scripture’s inerrant truth and transformative power, envisions the Word as a gemstone, sparkling with divine beauty and eternal light. Each quatrain seeks to capture a verse’s essence, portraying God’s law as a living jewel that illumines the soul, renews the spirit, and draws us into deeper communion with Jesus, whose life, death, and Resurrection infuse its commands with grace and glory.

This project pursues three sacred goals: to worship Jesus through poetic meditation on His inerrant Word, verse by verse; to magnify the Bible’s living beauty, revealing its power to transform hearts in every age; and to exalt Christ, the Alpha and Omega, who shines as the heart of Psalm 119’s every promise and plea. Using the New International Version (NIV) for its clarity, the quatrains trace the psalm’s Hebrew structure—from Aleph’s foundation to Tav’s culmination—anchoring each verse in Jesus’ radiant truth. Whether as a lamp (119:105) or a shield (119:114), the Word reflects Christ, guiding us to live in His love and light.

A Poetic Pilgrimage Through Psalm 119: Quatrains Exalting The Eternal Word is a labor of devotion, a poetic pilgrimage fueled by love for Jesus and His flawless Word. May these verses inspire readers to cherish Scripture’s transforming beauty, walk its path with joy, and draw ever closer to Christ, the living source of its eternal light.

Tsadhe: Transformed by the Righteousness of Christ’s Word

Hebrew Letter Meaning: Tsadhe (צ), the eighteenth Hebrew letter, means “fishhook” or “righteousness” in Hebrew, symbolizing justice, pursuit, or moral uprightness. In Jewish tradition, it represents righteousness and the zeal to align with God’s truth. In Psalm 119:137-144, the Tsadhe stanza celebrates the righteousness, trustworthiness, and eternal nature of God’s Word, the psalmist’s zeal for it despite trouble and anguish, and the surpassing value of its truth. The quatrains emphasize the transformative power of Jesus, the Righteous One (Acts 7:52), whose inerrant Word reshapes the psalmist’s heart—through devotion, zeal, endurance, and love for its everlasting truth—shining as a radiant gem.

Verse 137 (NIV): You are righteous, Lord, and your laws are right.

O Christ, Your righteousness my soul transforms,
Your laws, like radiant gems, uphold the right.
Inerrant Word, unerring, calms all storms,
Reshaping heart to shine within Your light.

Verse 138 (NIV): The statutes you have laid down are righteous; they are fully trustworthy.

Your statutes, Jesus, righteous and secure,
Their sparkling power turns my trust to flame.
Your living Word, inerrant, ever pure,
Transforms my soul to laud Your holy name.

Verse 139 (NIV): My zeal consumes me, because my enemies ignore your words.

Zeal burns, O Lord, for foes Your words defy,
Your radiant Word my fervent heart remakes.
Inerrant truth, unerring, lifts me high,
Transforming zeal to stand for Your law’s sake.

Verse 140 (NIV): Your promises have been thoroughly tested, and your servant loves them.

Your tested promises, O Christ, I love,
Their holy might, like jewels, shifts my core.
Your Word, unerring, radiant from above,
Transforms my heart to cherish evermore.

Verse 141 (NIV): Though I am lowly and despised, I do not forget your precepts.

Though lowly, scorned, Your precepts I embrace,
Their sparkling power turns my shame to might.
In Christ, Your Word, inerrant, full of grace,
Transforms my soul to hold Your holy light.

Verse 142 (NIV): Your righteousness is everlasting and your law is true.

Your lasting righteousness, O Jesus, reigns,
Your law, a gem, transforms my heart to see.
Inerrant truth, unerring, breaks all chains,
Reshaping soul with Your eternity.

Verse 143 (NIV): Trouble and distress have come upon me, but your commands give me delight.

In trouble, Lord, Your commands my joy restore,
Their radiant force my anguished heart reforms.
Your living Word, inerrant, I adore,
Transforming pain to gladness in Your norms.

Verse 144 (NIV): Your statutes are righteous forever; give me understanding to live.

Your statutes, Christ, forever righteous stand,
Their holy power shifts my life to live.
Unerring Word, like gems from Your own hand,
Transforms my mind Your wisdom to receive.

Unerring Word, like gems from Your own hand,
Transforms my mind Your wisdom to receive.

Hebrew Letter Meaning: Qoph (ק), the nineteenth Hebrew letter, means “back of the head” or “ape” in Hebrew, symbolizing humility, seeking, or the pursuit of God’s truth. In Jewish tradition, it represents the call to draw near to God through prayer and meditation. In Psalm 119:145-152, the Qoph stanza expresses the psalmist’s wholehearted cries for salvation, meditation on God’s Word during sleepless nights, and trust in its enduring truth despite enemies, with confidence in God’s nearness. The quatrains emphasize the transformative power of Jesus, the Answerer of prayers (Matthew 7:7), whose inerrant Word reshapes the psalmist’s heart—through fervent prayer, hope, meditation, and reliance on His nearness—shining as a radiant gem.

Verse 145 (NIV): I call with all my heart; answer me, Lord, and I will obey your decrees.

With all my heart, O Christ, I call to You,
Your radiant Word transforms my fervent plea.
Inerrant, gem-like, answer pure and true,
Reshapes my soul to keep Your blest decree.

Verse 146 (NIV): I call out to you; save me and I will keep your statutes.

I cry, O Jesus, save me by Your grace,
Your statutes, jewels, shift my heart to stand.
Your living Word, unerring, I embrace,
Transforming cries to follow Your command.

Verse 147 (NIV): I rise before dawn and cry for help; I have put my hope in your word.

Before the dawn, I seek You, Lord, in prayer,
Your Word, a radiant gem, my hope reforms.
Inerrant truth, unerring, calms my care,
Transforms my soul through faith that You perform.

Verse 148 (NIV): My eyes stay open through the watches of the night, that I may meditate on your promises.

Through nightly watches, Christ, I muse awake,
Your promises, like gems, my mind remake.
Your living Word, inerrant, I partake,
Transforming thought to trust for Your name’s sake.

Verse 149 (NIV): Hear my voice in accordance with your love; preserve my life, Lord, according to your laws.

Hear me, O Lord, Your steadfast love I seek,
Your laws, bright jewels, turn my life to live.
In Christ, Your Word, unerring, strong, not weak,
Transforms my heart Your mercy to receive.

Verse 150 (NIV): Those who devise wicked schemes are near, but they are far from your law.

Though wicked schemes draw near, Your law I hold,
Its sparkling power shifts my heart from fear.
Your living Word, inerrant, pure, and bold,
Transforms my soul to know Your truth is near.

Verse 151 (NIV): Yet you are near, Lord, and all your commands are true.

You’re near, O Jesus, with Your truth divine,
Your radiant commands my spirit realign.
Inerrant Word, unerring, ever mine,
Transforms my heart to rest in Your design.

Verse 152 (NIV): Long ago I learned from your statutes that you established them to last forever.

Your timeless statutes, Christ, my soul has learned,
Their holy might, like gems, my faith confirms.
Unerring Word, eternal, I have yearned,
Transforms my life to trust what never turns.

Resh: Transformed by the Deliverance of Christ’s Word

Hebrew Letter Meaning: Resh (ר), the twentieth Hebrew letter, means “head” in Hebrew, symbolizing leadership, renewal, or the beginning of a new phase. In Jewish tradition, it represents compassion and the renewal of life through God’s Word. In Psalm 119:153-160, the Resh stanza expresses the psalmist’s pleas for deliverance from suffering and persecution, unwavering devotion to God’s Word, trust in its enduring truth, and reverence for God’s compassion. The quatrains emphasize the transformative power of Jesus, the Deliverer (Psalm 34:17), whose inerrant Word reshapes the psalmist’s heart—through rescue, renewal, steadfast love, and reverence for its life-giving truth—shining as a radiant gem.

Verse 153 (NIV): Look on my suffering and deliver me, for I have not forgotten your law.

O Christ, my pain behold and set me free,
Your radiant law, a gem, my heart transforms.
Inerrant Word, unerring, I decree,
Reshapes my soul through Your delivering arms.

Verse 154 (NIV): Defend my cause and redeem me; preserve my life according to your promise.

Defend me, Jesus, with Your promise true,
Your radiant Word my broken soul remakes.
Unerring vow, like jewels, life renew,
Transforming heart through Your redeeming stakes.

Verse 155 (NIV): Salvation is far from the wicked, for they do not seek your decrees.

The wicked shun Your law, salvation’s light,
Your decrees, bright gems, my spirit realign.
In Christ, Your Word, inerrant, pure, and right,
Transforms my soul to seek Your will divine.

Verse 156 (NIV): Your compassion, Lord, is great; preserve my life according to your laws.

Your mercy, Lord, so vast, my life revive,
Your radiant laws my weary heart restore.
Unerring Word, like gems, makes me thrive,
Transforming soul through compassion’s holy store.

Verse 157 (NIV): Many are the foes who persecute me, but I have not turned from your statutes.

Though foes abound, Your statutes I uphold,
Their sparkling might my steadfast heart reforms.
Your living Word, inerrant, pure, and bold,
Transforms my faith to weather persecution’s storms.

Verse 158 (NIV): I look on the faithless with loathing, for they do not obey your word.

The faithless spurn Your Word, my heart abhors,
Your radiant truth, a jewel, shifts my view.
Inerrant law, unerring, opens doors,
Transforming zeal to love Your statutes true.

Verse 159 (NIV): See how I love your precepts; preserve my life, Lord, according to your love.

Behold my love, O Christ, for Your blest law,
Your radiant precepts turn my heart to sing.
Your living Word, inerrant, without flaw,
Transforms my life through Your unfailing spring.

Verse 160 (NIV): All your words are true; all your righteous laws are eternal.

Your words, O Jesus, true and everlasting,
Their holy power, gem-like, life confirms.
Inerrant laws, unerring, never passing,
Transform my soul to trust what never turns.

The sonnet celebrates the rare and beautiful act of loving one’s neighbor as oneself, likening it to a radiant gemstone that shines with selfless kindness. This love, depicted as a divine and unifying force, stands out against the selfishness of the world, reflecting eternal light through acts of empathy and care. Each deed forms part of a human sonnet, a testament to shared humanity. The poem concludes by emphasizing that Jesus Christ calls us to live this way, making such love a sincere expression of His teachings that brings heaven’s kingdom closer.

When love for neighbor mirrors love for self,
A jewel gleams where common hearts reside.
No richer gem adorns the soul’s deep shelf,
Than kindness shared with open hands, untied.

Its facets catch the light of selfless care,
Each deed a verse in human sonnet’s frame.
Rare sparkles dance where empathy’s laid bare,
And unity transcends the fleeting game.

Though selfishness may cloud the world’s design,
This love, a beacon, cuts through bitter night.
Like polished stone, its clarity divine,
Reflects the truth of shared, eternal light.

Christ bids us live this way, with hearts sincere,
His love through us makes heaven’s kingdom near.

In the Fleeting Splendor of Christ’s Created Golden Hour by Debbie Harris

The poem captures the golden hour, a fleeting time when sunlight bathes the world in a magical glow. The first stanza sets the scene with light weaving a dreamlike landscape. The second focuses on nature, with trees and leaves transformed into radiant, dancing forms. The third elevates everyday objects like sidewalks and gates, revealing their beauty through light’s touch. The final stanza addresses the golden hour directly, lamenting its brevity while celebrating its ability to unify all things in a transcendent, golden world.

In the golden hour’s tender glow,
Where sunlight spills and shadows flow,
The world is draped in amber veils,
A canvas brushed with liquid beams.

Trees wear cloaks of shimmering light,
Their leaves a dance of warmth and flight.
The air hums soft, a honeyed haze,
Each moment gilded, each scene ablaze.

Sidewalks shimmer, cracks turn to art,
Each rust-flecked gate a pulsing flame.
Colors sing—green deepens, red ignites,
As day and night blur in soft delights.

Oh, fleeting hour, so brief, so rare,
You gild the earth with heavenly grace.
In your soft light, all things find peace,
A fleeting world, where shadows cease.

The Uncontainable Wonders of Christ’s Earthly Deeds by Debbie Harris

Summary of the Sonnet: The Uncontainable Wonders of Christ’s Earthly Deeds

This sonnet, inspired by John 21:25, reflects on the boundless and awe-inspiring deeds of Jesus during His earthly ministry, which the verse claims are so vast that the world could not contain their record. The poem asserts that no scribe could fully document, nor any library hold, the multitude of His miracles—His healing touch, transformative words, raising of souls, and calming of storms. These acts, overflowing with love and truth, surpass human comprehension and earthly limits. The sonnet concludes by praising Jesus, whose mighty works transcend all boundaries, affirming their infinite, sacred worth and eternal significance.

The world could not contain, as John attests,
The boundless acts of Christ while here below.
No scribe could write, no shelf could hold the crests
Of wonders wrought where’er His steps would go.

Each healing hand, each word that pierced the night,
Each soul He raised, each storm He stilled with peace—
Their grandeur spills beyond all mortal sight,
Too vast for books, their splendor shall not cease.

No page could hold the love that walked the earth,
No vault contain the truth His life unfurled.
His every deed, of infinite, sacred worth,
Outweighs the scope and space of all the world.

O Savior, whose great works no bounds confine,
Your mighty works no earthly bounds define.
