The poem portrays Christ’s beauty as a transformative, redemptive force that shines through human brokenness. It begins with Christ piercing through darkness, shaping life from pain with hands marked by sacrifice. His gaze and wounds are depicted as sources of light and renewal, turning scars into something beautiful. The speaker addresses the human soul as a fragile “jar of clay,” uplifted by Christ’s mercy, which doesn’t conceal flaws but illuminates them with grace. The poem closes with Christ’s love reaching into silence and ruin, lifting the humble and fostering growth in the broken heart.

Beneath the weight of shadow’s weave,
A tender gleam does softly cleave—
His hands, once torn, now hold the clay,
And mold the night to break of day.

Through dust and ache, His gaze alights,
A flame that rends the endless nights,
Each scar a song, each wound a bloom,
A rose unfurling from the tomb.

O fragile jar, O fractured frame,
He whispers life into your name—
Not gold to hide, but light to trace
The cracks where mercy writes His face.

In silence deep, His beauty calls,
Through shattered walls and humbled falls,
A love that bends to lift the low,
And bids the broken heart to grow.

The Lamb Held Close in the Victorious Shepherd’s Heart by Debbie Harris

The poem vividly portrays Jesus as a Shepherd cradling His lamb with tender yet unyielding strength. Set against a dramatic backdrop of golden skies, rugged hills, and lurking dangers, He shields the fragile lamb—its fleece like snow, its bleat a soft cry—from storms, wolves, and thorns. His scarred hands and radiant crown symbolize mercy and triumph, while His voice calms chaos. The lamb, once lost, finds peace against His heart, held securely in arms that serve as both a haven and a throne. The poem culminates in a celebration of Jesus’ eternal vigilance and victorious grace, lifting the lamb above all threats in a blend of love and power.

Beneath a sky of molten gold, where heavens gently weep,
The Shepherd stands, His robes aglow, on hills both wild and steep.
His eyes, like lanterns carved of dawn, pierce through the shadowed vale,
A tender gaze, unyielding strength, a love that cannot fail.

In arms of oak, yet soft as wool, He cradles close His lamb,
Its fleece a drift of winter snow, its bleat a fragile psalm.
The winds may howl, the brambles claw, the wolves in darkness roam,
But safe within His steadfast grip, no harm can call it home.

His hands, scarred deep with mercy’s mark, a shield of flesh and grace,
Enfold the trembling, wayward soul, a haven’s warm embrace.
The thorns that tear the mountainside, the rivers cold and vast,
They bow before His whispered word, their fury stilled at last.

A crown of light, not woven thorns, adorns His brow serene,
Each strand a thread of starlight pulled from realms unseen.
The lamb, once lost in twilight’s snare, now rests against His chest,
Its heart a drum to match His own, in peace, in love, caressed.

The storm may rage, the earth may quake, yet still His voice resounds,
A lullaby of endless care that echoes through the bounds.
Through glens of green, through ash and flame, His vigil never fades,
His arms a throne, the lamb upheld, where grace and power rise.

The hymn, structured in four quatrains with a recurring refrain, celebrates a lone bird singing in the darkest night. Its clear, free voice unveils the Savior’s light and glory, flowing as a divine anthem through shadows to awaken stars and stir the forest with love. A small herald on frail wings, the bird lifts hearts through grief and joy with a timeless song. The final stanza blesses its tune that hails the King, as earth and sky join in rapture, redeeming souls with peace. The refrain, sung after each stanza, lifts praise from night to dawn, affirming His ceaseless love and the song’s ascent to the throne, bringing eternal peace.

One bird sings out in darkest night,
A voice so clear and free,
Its song reveals our Savior’s light,
His glory all may see.
Refrain:
From night to dawn, we lift our praise,
His love shall never cease,
The song ascends to throne on high,
And brings eternal peace.

Through shadows deep, its anthem flows,
A trill of grace divine,
The stars awake, the forest knows,
His love in every line.
Refrain:
From night to dawn, we lift our praise,
His love shall never cease,
The song ascends to throne on high,
And brings eternal peace.

O herald small with wings so frail,
You lift our hearts to praise,
Through grief and joy your notes prevail,
A sound through endless days.
Refrain:
From night to dawn, we lift our praise,
His love shall never cease,
The song ascends to throne on high,
And brings eternal peace.

Blest be the tune that hails the King,
From night to dawn’s first gleam,
All earth and sky with rapture sing,
His peace our souls redeem.
Refrain:
From night to dawn, we lift our praise,
His love shall never cease,
The song ascends to throne on high,
And brings eternal peace.

The ode, in three eight-line stanzas, exalts a lone bird singing in the “onyx veil of night.” Its holy trill pierces shadows, proclaiming divine glory with a psalm-like melody. In the first stanza, the bird’s song stirs stars and trees, a joyful beam against despair, crowning it a psalmist of heaven’s will. The second stanza follows its tune through grief, a spark of grace defying midnight’s reign, lifting hearts with love’s eternal promise. The third stanza blesses the bird as a dawn-waker, its echoes ringing from throne to earth, a ceaseless anthem of peace and beauty on pure feathers. The poem celebrates the bird as a sacred voice illuminating the divine in darkness.

I.
O bird that breaks the onyx veil of night,
With fragile wings you weave a holy strain,
Your trill ascends where shadows hold their might,
To sing of glory through the dark’s domain.
The stars, your choir, in silence softly gleam,
The trees bow low, their branches hushed and still,
You pierce despair with joy’s unshaken beam,
A psalmist crowned by heaven’s tender will.

II.
Through vales of grief, your melody takes flight,
A thread of grace to mend the soul’s deep tear,
Each note a spark against the endless blight,
A hymn to prove the sacred lingers near.
The midnight cloaks the world in somber hue,
Yet you, O voice, defy its heavy reign,
With praise you lift the heart to vistas new,
A herald bold of love’s eternal gain.

III.
Blest be your song that wakes the dawn’s first light,
From throne to earth, your echoes softly ring,
In stillness deep, you bear the spirit’s sight,
A testament on feathers pure to sing.
O midnight scribe, your anthem shall not cease,
Through gloom and gleam, your truth forever soars,
You call the weary unto boundless peace,
And bid us see where holy beauty pours.

The sonnet depicts a solitary bird, dubbed the “Midnight Psalmist,” singing in the “black onyx of night.” Its piercing trill cuts through despair, proclaiming the Lord’s glory with a hymn-like melody. In 14 lines, the bird’s song awakens stars like prayers, stirs trees cradling grace, and rises from shadows to a divine throne. Spanning sorrow and joy on fragile wings, it lifts the soul and glorifies the sacred. The final couplet reveals that in the night’s silence, this lone voice restores hope, illuminating the holy for all to see.

One lone bird sings in black onyx of night,
A trill to pierce the shroud of dark despair,
Proclaims the glory of our Lord in sight,
Through stillness weaves a hymn in heavy air.
The stars awake, like prayers softly sown,
While trees stand firm, their branches cradle grace,
A song ascends from shadows to the throne,
A sacred sound the darkness can’t erase.
Through vales of woe and peaks of joy it rings,
This melody that threads the midnight’s frame,
A testament on fragile, faithful wings,
To lift the soul and glorify His name.
In night’s deep hush, one voice can all restore,
The holy shines where mortal eyes adore.

The poem begins with a lone bird singing in the “black onyx of night,” its fragile song cutting through despair to proclaim that the glory of Jesus is everywhere. Across four stanzas, it expands into a vivid scene where the bird’s melody awakens the stars, stirs the silent trees standing as sentinels, and weaves through darkness with grace and cheer. The song lifts the soul from sorrow to divine heights, testifying to a sacred presence that endures despite the night’s heaviness. Nature and spirituality intertwine as the bird, undeterred by shadow, reveals a holy embrace that spans valleys and peaks, affirming that the divine is always near.

One lone bird singing in the black onyx of night,
A fragile trill piercing the shroud of despair,
Tells the world that the glory of Jesus is everywhere in sight,
A melody woven through the still, heavy air.

Beneath the vast canopy where shadows take flight,
The stars blink awake, like prayers softly sown,
Each note lifts the soul from the depths to the height,
A testament sung to a king on His throne.

The trees stand as sentinels, silent and tight,
Their branches a cradle for whispers of grace,
The bird, undeterred by the absence of light,
Proclaims in its chorus a sacred embrace.

Through valleys of sorrow, through peaks burning bright,
The song threads the darkness with ribbons of cheer,
One lone bird singing in the black onyx of night,
Reveals that the holy is always near.

Christ’s Beauty Filled Eternal Light by Debbie Harris

The poem is a 14-line sonnet that explores the beauty of Christ through rich imagery and theological depth. It opens with light fracturing through a stained-glass window, symbolizing Christ’s grace illuminating the ordinary. This beauty arises from both joy and suffering, embodied in a humble king whose love stands alone. His pierced hands bring redemption, his eyes reflect eternity, and his silent presence resonates with a cosmic harmony that draws even the stars. The sonnet reflects on how no human craft can fully capture his tender strength or radiant wounds, yet he emerges as an eternal light within the dust of earth—a paradox of divine splendor. It closes with a couplet exalting Christ’s radiant beauty, which heals and unites beyond the bounds of time.

The light that fractures through the stained-glass pane,
A prismed gleam of grace on rough-hewn stone,
Reveals a beauty born of joy and pain,
A king who kneels, a love that stands alone.
His hands, once pierced, now hold the world’s repair,
His eyes, like wells, reflect eternity,
And in His silence sings a song so fair,
That stars incline to hear its harmony.
No marble cold could carve such tender might,
No mortal hue could paint His wounded gleam,
Yet in the dust He dawns, our endless light,
A paradox of splendor in a dream.
O Christ, whose radiance bathes the world in gold,
Your beauty binds what ages can’t unfold.

In Christ Alone, the Dawn of Redemption Shines by Debbie Harris

The sonnet portrays a world shrouded in darkness and burdened by sin, where humanity struggles in despair. Amid this gloom, Jesus emerges as the singular source of hope, a divine light whose love and grace mend brokenness and offer eternal salvation. Earthly powers pale in comparison to His might and mercy, establishing Him as the way, the truth, and the life. The poem concludes with a call for all nations to praise Him, affirming that Christ alone is the world’s ultimate hope and redemption.

Amid the shadows cast by mortal strife,
Where hearts in darkness wander far astray,
The world, a canvas marred by sin’s dull knife,
Cries out beneath its burdens day by day.
Yet through the gloom, a single light does gleam,
A Savior born to bear our every woe,
His love, the thread that mends each broken seam,
In Him alone does hope eternal grow.
No earthly crown can rival grace divine,
No power here can match His tender might,
For Jesus, Lamb and King, in truth does shine,
The way, the life, the dawn that ends our night.
So let the nations lift their voice and sing,
In Christ alone, our hope, our everything.

The frost unclenches,
a fist of winter softened
by the first gold thread
of morning—light spills
like sap through the veins
of the maple, tender
and alive.

Beneath the stone’s
cold weight, a tremor—
not of earth, but of breath
unfurling, a green shoot
splitting the dark.
The sparrow knows it,
tilting her beak to sing
what the wind already hums:
He is not here.

The garden quivers,
petals unscrolling
from their tight tombs,
and I, barefoot
on this damp soil,
feel the pulse
of a world remade—
not by my hands,
but His rising.
