Sonnet: The Measure of True Gain

Success is not in gold or fleeting fame,
But in the heart that heeds the Lord’s command,
A life aligned with His eternal name,
Where faith takes root in soil of promised land.

The world may chase its crowns of hollow cheer,
Yet wisdom whispers through the sacred page,
To seek His will, to hold His presence near,
Outshines the wealth that withers with the age.

For what is gain if soul and truth divide?
The prosperous path is trust through storm and strife,
A quiet strength where humble steps abide.

So let the heart in stillness seek its life,
True victory blooms where God’s own word is sown,
And heaven’s peace becomes the treasure known.

He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

Colossians 1:17 (KJV)

He stands before the dawn of time’s first gleam,
In Him the threads of all creation bind,
Through endless ages, He remains supreme.

The stars, the dust, the heavens’ vast extreme,
All rest within His will, by love designed,
He stands before the dawn of time’s first gleam.

No force can break the unity extreme,
The chaos stilled, the fractured redefined,
Through endless ages, He remains supreme.

Each breath, each pulse, flows from His living stream,
The world upheld where mercy’s hands entwined,
He stands before the dawn of time’s first gleam.

The void would reign, a dark and shattered dream,
Were not His power the cornerstone behind,
Through endless ages, He remains supreme.

So sing of Him, let every voice redeem,
The truth that holds when all else falls resigned:
He stands before the dawn of time’s first gleam,
Through endless ages, He remains supreme.

Lord Of The Emerald Boughs by Debbie Harris

The emerald trees in silent grandeur stand,
Their jeweled leaves a canopy of light,
A whispered song of nature’s gentle hand,
That weaves through day and cradles soft the night.
Each bough a brushstroke, verdant, bold, and free,
In sunlight’s glow, they shimmer like the sea,
A tide of green where shadows dance and play,
A living art no mortal could decree.
Their roots entwine the earth in deep embrace,
A timeless bond through seasons’ ceaseless flight,
They hold the wind, the rain, the sky’s wide grace,
And gift the world a canopy of might.
Oh, emerald trees, your beauty reigns so grand,
All praise to God, who shaped you by His hand.

Gold, Silver, Crimson by Debbie Harris

Upon the loom of life, a thread of gold,
Truth gleams unyielding, pure, a steady light,
Its edges sharp, its clarity so bold,
It cuts through shadows, banishing the night.

Yet silver winds beside, a gentler hue,
Grace bends where rigid truth might break apart,
A silken cord, forgiving, soft, and true,
It binds the wounds and soothes the aching heart.

Then crimson flows, a river deep and wide,
Mercy’s rich stain, where love and justice meet,
A thread of sacrifice, where wrath subsides,
Its tapestry of pardon made complete.

These strands entwine, a fragile, sacred art,
Three hues as one, to mend the human heart.

Sacred Mirrors by Debbie Harris

If we could see each other through God’s eyes,
Where every soul’s a spark of light divine,
No flaw too deep, no failing to despise,
But love that threads through every fault’s design.

The beggar’s rags would glow with hidden grace,
The proudest heart reveal its tender ache,
Each face a mirror of the sacred place,
Where mercy flows for every soul’s own sake.

What wars would cease, what bitterness would fade,
If pride gave way to vision so profound?
No mask could hold, no sin could cast a shade,
When all our worth in holy sight is found.

So let us strive to see as God might see,
A world reborn in boundless charity.

In shadows cast by doubt, their name is born,
A cynic treads where faith has lost its gleam,
With piercing gaze, they scorn the rose-strewn dream,
And find in trust a thorn too deeply worn.

No gilded hope can soothe their heart forlorn,
They laugh at tides that lift the dreamer’s pride,
A mind unbound where reason’s currents glide,
A soul estranged from innocence once sworn.

They see a world that’s shaped by phantom glare,
Illusions cloak the faithful’s bold reprieve,
Their scorn reveals a truth too stark to bear,
To mock Godly lives they wish they could live.
So Cynic looms, their Christless spirit cries,
While saints ascend where heaven’s glory flies.

A Spirit Without Grace: The Critic’s Cold Domain by Debbie Harris

Amid the heart where grace should softly bloom,
Pride swells instead, a graceless, thorny vine,
A critic’s tongue, too eager to consume,
Devours sweet peace with bitterness divine.
No humble seed takes root in stony ground,
Where judgment reigns and mercy finds no place,
The soul, once light, by arrogance is bound,
Its mirror shows a cold, unyielding face.
Each word, a barb; each glance, a sharpened blade,
To wound the weak, to mock what’s pure and true,
Yet in this scorn, a hollow price is paid—
A life estranged from love it never knew.
Oh, spirit harsh, beware thy prideful fall,
For grace withheld returns no grace at all.

Rock And Ruin by Debbie Harris

Sonnet inspired by the Parable of the Wise and Foolish Builders (Matthew 7:24-27), where one builds a house on rock and another on sand, reflecting resilience versus ruin.

A foolish soul heaps sand beneath the sun,
With grains that shift and shimmer in the breeze,
A house of dreams, by reckless hands begun,
Collapses swift when storm-winds whip the seas.
The wise one carves a home on jagged stone,
Where roots of rock defy the tempest’s wail,
Through rain and roar, unshaken and alone,
Its walls stand firm, a refuge that prevails.
One trusts in dust, a glitter doomed to fade,
One clings to truth, where floods can never rend,
The first lies wrecked, by fleeting whims betrayed,
The last endures, with strength that knows no end.
So sand’s frail throne yields fast to nature’s cry,
Yet rock holds fast, where faith shall never die.

Ash And Sky be Debbie Harris

The Carnal Christian treads through ash-strewn gloom,
A faith like embers choked in muddy haze,
Claws scrape at ghosts, their tarnish dripping doom,
They swap the lily’s glow for briars’ blaze.
The Passionate Disciple storms through fire,
Christ’s voice a gale that roars through marrow’s core,
Kneels deep in dusk, lips trembling with desire,
A root that shatters granite, drenched in lore.
One staggers blind through mist, chasing glint’s deceit,
One drinks where diamond torrents carve and chime,
Flesh swathes the first in frost-bit shroud’s retreat,
While love ignites the next with wings of rhyme.
So carnal husks dissolve in twilight’s sigh,
Yet Christ’s fierce love turns tears to endless sky.

From Glory To Glory by Debbie Harris

From glory unto glory we ascend,
A sacred change within our souls takes flight,
Each dawn a chance to grow, to mend, to bend,
Toward the holy image of His light.

Transformed by grace, our hearts begin to see,
The likeness of the Christ in every deed,
A call to rise, to shed what should not be,
And bloom as sons and daughters of His seed.

Day after day, His spirit shapes our clay,
Refines the rough, ignites the dim to flame,
Through trials faced, through love we learn to pray,
We bear the beauty of His endless name.

So let us strive, with every breath we take,
To mirror Him, for glory’s boundless sake.
