What Does It Profit If You Gain The Whole World But Lose Your Own Soul by Debbie Harris

What profit lies in hoarding earth’s vast gold,
When crowns and coffers gleam with fleeting light?
The heart, once warm, grows brittle, dark, and cold,
A hollow shell beneath ambition’s height.
The world may bow, its treasures all unfurl,
Yet whispers echo through the grandest hall—
A soul adrift, a lost and fading pearl,
Unseen amid the riches that enthrall.
For what is gained when all is won, yet lost,
The self erased by shadows of the prize?
The cost of conquest carves a bitter cost,
A soul entombed in splendor’s thin disguise.
Though flawed, a soul that seeks Christ’s humble way,
Outshines a king’s in riches that won’t fade.

Sovereign Name on Robe and Thigh Resplendent by Debbie Harris

And He hath on His vesture and on His thigh a name written: King Of Kings, And Lord Of Lords.

Revelation 19:6

His robe unfurls, a scarlet banner bright,
And on His thigh, a title boldly gleams,
“King of Kings,” proclaimed in holy light,
“Lord of Lords,” the anthem of all dreams.
No scribe of earth could pen such sovereign claim,
No mortal thread could bear this mighty word,
Yet there it stands, through storm and ceaseless flame,
A name by which all powers are deterred.
The heavens quake, the stars in awe align,
To witness Him who reigns o’er every tide,
His voice resounds, a thunder pure, divine,
And nations fall where once they swelled with pride.
O Christ, whose robe and flesh this truth confess,
Thy name alone is might and righteousness.

Hymn Of Praise And Adoration To Our Lord And King by Debbie Harris

No crown we give can make Him reign,
For King of Kings He shall remain,
O’er time and tide, His throne stands sure,
Lord of Lords forevermore.

The heavens shout, the stars declare,
His glory fills the boundless air,
No hand of man need lift His name,
Eternal Sovereign, still the same.

His scepter shines with endless light,
His holy will our hearts ignite,
Through darkest deep, o’er highest peak,
His voice alone is all we seek.

Let souls arise, let voices ring,
To praise the uncreated King,
With every breath, our anthems soar,
To Him who reigns forevermore.

Luminous Deeds Echo Graceful Communication by Debbie Harris

But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

Hebrews 13:16 (KJV)

To do good deeds and share with open heart,
Forget not these, for they are sweet to Him,
A sacrifice of love, a noble art,
That lights the soul when worldly joys grow dim.
The hand that gives, though weary it may tire,
Shall find its strength renewed in tender grace,
For in such acts, we rise above desire,
And meet the divine in every stranger’s face.
Communication binds us, thread to thread,
A web of care no distance can unwind,
Through words and works, God’s pleasure is our bread,
A feast for hearts that seek and strive to find.
So let us give and speak with ceaseless cheer,
For thus we please the One who holds us dear.

Apples Of Gold In Pictures Of Silver by Debbie Harris

A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.

Proverbs 25:11 (KJV)

Upon the tongue, a word in season blooms,
Like apples forged of gold, so rare, so bright,
Encased in silver frames where art consumes,
A moment’s grace to pierce the soul’s dark night.
Its cadence falls as dew on parched, dry ground,
A balm to soothe where discord long has reigned,
With gentle might, it shifts the heart’s own sound,
A treasure wrought where silence once remained.
Not loud, nor brash, but fitly shaped and true,
It gleams amid the chaos of our days,
A spark to kindle minds, to birth anew,
A light refracted through a silver haze.
So speak, when time and wisdom softly blend,
A word to heal, to lift, to mend, to send.

The Bold Defiance Of Shadrach, Meshach, And Abednego by Debbie Harris

In Babylon’s fierce blaze, where flames ascend,
Three voices rise, unyielding to the throne,
To Nebuchadnezzar’s will they will not bend,
Their faith in God a rock, their hearts of stone.
“O king,” they cry, “we heed not thy decree,
Our God can save us from the furnace dire,
Yet should He not, this truth shall ever be:
We spurn thy gods, we shun thy golden spire.”

No idol forged by mortal hands they’ll praise,
No power earthly sways their steadfast soul,
Through fire or death, their loyalty ablaze,
To One alone they yield, who makes them whole.
Defiant still, their words through ages ring:
“We will not serve thy gods, O mighty king.”

Precious in His Sight, The Saint’s Last Breath Takes Flight by Debbie Harris

Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints,

Psalm 116:15 (KJV)

A fleeting breath ascends to realms above,
The saint’s last sigh, a whisper soft and sweet,
Is cradled close by hands of endless love,
Where mortal dust and holy light shall meet.
No tear escapes His ever-watchful gaze,
Each pang, each joy, He counts as sacred gold,
The soul departs through heaven’s tender rays,
A tale of faith in death’s embrace retold.
Though earth may mourn the fading of its own,
The Lord rejoices at their journey’s end,
For precious is the seed so humbly sown,
A saint’s repose, His heart shall ever tend.
In silence deep, their deaths His glory frame,
Eternal rest, inscribed with His own name.

Tribute to Deborah’s Fire, Her Victory’s Choir Resounds by Debbie Harris

(I was named after Deborah in the Bible. Pretty amazing that she was a poet too.)

Her eyes aflame beneath the palm’s green crown,
A seer’s gaze ablaze with heaven’s might,
She judged the lost, her wisdom handed down,
And turned the shadowed day to piercing light.
To Barak bold she spoke with fervent zeal,
“The Lord decrees this hour shall be won,
Though triumph’s crown a woman’s hand shall seal,”
Her words, like fire, sparked what faith begun.
The storm broke loose, the chariots sank in mud,
By Jael’s blow, Sisera’s breath was stilled,
Then Deborah’s praise resounded, rich with blood,
A victor’s song from battle’s echo thrilled.
Her voice, a torch, through ages still astounds,
A prophetess whose call forever sounds.

Sonnet: Galatians 6:14-In Christ Alone I Boast by Debbie Harris

No pride in self shall lift my soul aloft,
Nor riches gleam with promise to abide,
Accomplishments, like dust, are borne aloft,
In Christ’s great cross alone I shall confide.
The wood that bore His pain redeems my days,
A glory far beyond what hands can earn,
No fleeting crown of man’s unsteady praise,
But grace through blood where heaven’s fires burn.
Let worldly boasts dissolve in silent air,
Their echoes lost to time’s unyielding tide,
The cross stands firm, my refuge and my prayer,
In sacrifice my heart shall e’er reside.
For Christians, this the anthem we profess,
To glory in His cross, our righteousness.

Lament For The 70 Martyrs That Were Slaughtered By Islam Radicals by Debbie Harris

Oh, silent church, your walls now weep,
A sanctuary turned to sorrow deep,
Seventy souls, bound and still,
Their voices hushed on a blood-stained hill.

Hands that prayed, now tied in chains,
Hearts that sang, now stilled by pain,
The blade descended, cruel and cold,
A tale of terror, brutally told.

Where candles flickered, shadows reign,
Where hymns once rose, now cries remain,
The faithful fell, their faith unshaken,
By ruthless hands, their lives were taken.

Oh, heavens mourn, oh, earth lament,
For innocence so violently spent,
Their blood a witness, their spirits soar,
Beyond the reach of hate’s cruel roar.

Why does the dawn not break this night?
Why fades the hope, the guiding light?
Seventy names, etched in grace,
Lost to the world, yet they find their place.

We grieve, we bow, beneath this woe,
A river of tears begins to flow,
For those who knelt, for those who died,
In a sacred space where love once thrived.

Oh, God of mercy, hear our plea,
Bind up the broken, set the captives free,
For seventy saints, now crowned above,
We mourn their loss, we lift their love.
