Matthew 6:24
“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.” (ESV)
Matthew 6:33
“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (ESV)
In twilight’s hush where golden shadows play,
The heart unfolds its ledger, line by line—
One column bright with coin and worldly gain,
The other veiled in light that knows no time.
“Serve not two lords,” the ancient warning cries,
For love divided splits the soul in twain;
The hand that clutches silver’s fleeting prize
Will lose the grasp that reaches heaven’s reign.
Yet fret not for the bread, the cloak, the field—
The sparrows sing, the lilies wear their best;
The Father sees each need His hand will yield
To those who lay all treasures in His chest.
O soul, arise! Let earthly lures grow dim,
Pursue the Kingdom’s pearl of matchless worth;
Seek first His face, His truth, His holy hymn—
And all things else shall bloom upon this earth.
When riches call with siren songs of rest,
Remember: only God can truly fill;
The restless heart, by weariness oppressed,
Is drawn at last to do the Father’s will.
Christ and His Word — our greatest wealth
More precious than all rubies, gold, or gem,
Is Christ Himself, the Living Word made flesh;
In Him alone true riches find their stem,
His promises a never-failing mesh.
No vault of kings, no hoard of ancient kings,
Can match the treasure stored in grace divine;
His spoken truth, like purest silver, rings—
Eternal wealth that makes the poor man shine.
So fix thine eyes beyond the fading gold,
Where moth and rust hold no destructive sway;
Christ and His Word our sovereign wealth behold—
Victorious forever, we shall soar.
