The sonnet urges the reader to find peace and patience in God, trusting in His justice despite the temporary success of the wicked. It emphasizes that evil’s prosperity is fleeting, while faith and stillness in the Lord bring lasting strength and hope, culminating in divine light overcoming darkness in the end.

Rest thou in peace beneath the Lord’s great eye,
And wait with heart untroubled through the storm,
Though wicked men in wealth and power climb,
Their schemes like shadows twist in fleeting form.

Fret not thyself when evil seems to reign,
When prosp’rous hands devise their cunning art,
For time doth turn, and justice shall remain,
A quiet strength shall steady every heart.

The Lord doth see, His patience holds the key,
To still the soul amid the tempest’s roar,
In silence, faith shall bloom eternally,

And peace shall rise where anguish dwelt before.
So rest, dear soul, and trust His holy way,
For light shall break upon the final day.
