The poem, titled “Lament Against the Cruelty of Humanity in All Its Many Forms”, expresses deep sorrow over humanity’s various acts of cruelty, from hatred and war to the suffering of the innocent. It portrays a shared grief between the speaker and God, who both mourn the pain inflicted by selfish and malicious actions. The poem highlights the divine call for redemption and love, despite humanity’s persistent cruelty, and questions whether people will heed this call or continue causing anguish. It concludes with a unified lament for the loss of compassion and the hope for change.
Oh, how the heart of heaven weeps,
For cruelty in humanity creeps.
In shadows cast by selfish hands,
The wounds of malice scar the lands.
From whispered hate to wars that roar,
The innocent are crushed, ignored.
The child’s cry, the widow’s pain,
The blood that spills like bitter rain.
God’s eyes, they glimmer, heavy, sore,
Grieving for the world He bore.
Each act of spite, each heart grown cold,
A story of His love untold.
Yet still He calls through endless night,
With mercy soft as morning light.
“Turn from the dark, embrace the true,
My heart, like yours, breaks for you.”
But will we hear? Will we repent?
Or let more tears in anguish vent?
For God and I, we mourn as one,
The cruelty done, the love undone.
