Summary of “Errant Gospel’s Tragedy”
The poem portrays the tragic zeal of a person who passionately believes they serve Jesus Christ but is misled by a distorted gospel. Their fervent devotion, though sincere, is rooted in error, leading them to spread falsehoods. The poem laments the deceit of their heart, their incomplete worship, and their failure to embrace the true Christ. It concludes with a call to seek the pure gospel and the right path, as the Savior grieves for their misplaced faith.
Beneath the cross, with fervent cries,
They lift their voice to starry skies,
Convinced their heart beats true for Christ,
Yet blind to truth, their soul enticed.
The gospel preached, a twisted vine,
Its roots in error, not divine.
With passion bold, they spread the word,
But falsehood’s edge has cut the herd.
O tragedy, the heart’s deceit,
To kneel at altars incomplete!
They call it love, they call it grace,
Yet miss Christ’s truth in true embrace.
The Savior weeps for zeal misplaced,
For fervent souls by lies displaced.
Turn back, O wanderer, seek the light,
The gospel pure, the path made right.
