For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
Romans 1:16 (KJV)
I stand unashamed beneath the sacred word,
The gospel of my Lord, my heart’s delight,
A power divine, by mortal ears unheard,
That breaks the dark with beams of holy light.
To Jew it came, the firstborn of God’s grace,
A promise kept through ages long foretold,
Then to the Greek, to every seeking face,
A salvation vast, for timid and for bold.
No chains can bind this truth that sets us free,
No shadow dim its everlasting flame,
For in its call, the soul finds liberty,
And sings with joy the Savior’s blessed name.
So let me proclaim, with neither fear nor shame,
The gospel’s might, eternal and the same.
